Interlude: YUNHO
I ran breathless towards the nurse’s station. I gasped my question at the nurse and impatiently waited for the answer. Once I had gotten it, I ran to the stairs taking two at a time until I reached the right floor.
“Hey!” I gasped at another nurse that passed by the empty room where Changmin and Yoochun were supposed to be. “Have you seen the patient from this room? Do you know where he is?” I asked.
“Oh Changmin-sshi?” The nurse replied. “He and his friend were here just earlier. I’m sorry I don’t know where they went.”
The nurse bowed in apology before going on her way. Pushing my panic away, I tried to think of where Changmin and Yoochun might be. They couldn’t have left. Yoochun had agreed that I’d come to get them.
I ran by the windows thinking hard. Where could they have gone?
It hit me a second later. The roof!
Running again, I stopped by the elevators but thought again and headed straight for the stairs. My bad feeling grew as I climbed higher.
Damn! I need to hurry!
Slamming the door to the roof open, I gasped and ran. Kicking out, my foot connected with Hyunsik’s hand and knocked the knife out of his hands. I grabbed him and lifted him off of Changmin before throwing him to the ground.
I watched as Hyunsik tried to regain his feet. Anger surging, I backhanded him. Then I grabbed him by the collar and punched him.
“Ah~ the hero finally makes his appearance!” Hyunsik choked out as he laughed. He cradled his jaw. His lip was split and bleeding. “You think you can really change and hope to finally have that second chance you’d been hoping for, Yunho?”
I ignored him and made my way to Changmin and Yoochun.
“Are you guys alright?” I asked looking both of them over.
Changmin had a bleeding gash on his neck but seemed to be okay. Yoochun was uninjured.
“You’re just deluding yourself! You should just be honest with yourself. You’re not fit for this kind of lifestyle.” Hyunsik shouted.
The next second my fist had connected with his face again. I bent down to grab his neck this time.
“Yunho!” Changmin shouted. “That’s enough! Stop it!” he shouted again arms going around my middle. “Enough.” He pleaded. “Please stop.”
I dropped my hands and turned to Changmin.
Changmin’s eyes widened before he put himself in front of me in a quick move given his injury. He put his arms up in defense. He gasped in pain and the next thing I see is blood.
“Changmin!” I yelled.
Hyunsik had managed to recover his weapon and slashed at Changmin. I would have been severly injured had Changmin not put himself in front of me. Hyunsik held the knife still, blade pointed right at me as I glared at him.
I stepped forward quickly. Timing my move, I sidestepped Hyunsik and disarmed him. Now I held the knife in my hands. Grabbing him by his collar again, I held him at knife point.
“What will it take for you to stop this, huh?” I asked. “Should I just kill you myself?”
“NO!” Yoochun suddenly yelled slamming right in between us. “You can’t kill him, Yunho! Please just stop this. Please!”
I lowered my arm and threw the knife away. My other hand kept its hold on Hyunsik before I pushed him away. I felt the satisfaction of seeing him land hard on his ass.
“There won’t be a next time.” I warned before turning my back on him.
I helped Changmin up. He’d been cradling and applying pressure on his left arm. There was a wide gash on his forearm. Together, Yoochun and I held him in between us as we made our way to the door.

We’d gone straight to the emergency room to have Changmin’s wound looked at. Luckily, it wasn’t that deep of a wound though it needed stitches. I’d excused myself to make a call to Detective Donghoon to tell him what had happened. I’d also called Junsu over so he can take Yoochun home.
“Min,” I started sitting beside him. His neck and arm were bandaged, his injured arm in a sling. “I’m sorry.”
“There’s nothing for you to be sorry for, Yunho.” Changmin said with a smile. “I’m alright, it’s just a few stitches. I’ll survive.”
“But this shouldn’t have happened.” I tried to reason out. “This is - ”
“This is NOT your fault, Jung Yunho.” Changmin said with a glare. “This?” he gestured to his injured arm. “All that’s been happening since Kang Hyunsik had come into our lives, isn’t your fault.”
“But - ” I started again.
“But nothing!” Changmin interrupted me again. “Did you make him come to our university? Did you ask him to do the things that he’d done? No. You don’t even know him, Yunho.”
I looked away unable to have anything to say.
“Hey.” Changmin touched my shoulder. He waited until I looked at him. “You are not the person that Hyunsik wants you to be.” He said looking me in the eye. “You are not nor will you ever be someone as dark and twisted as Kang Hyunsik.”
“Promise me one thing, Min.” I said taking his hand in mine. “Don’t ever go anywhere near him. Don’t ever be alone with him. Don’t even talk to him.” I sighed and rested my forehead on his shoulder. “I’d better warn Yoochun as well.”
“Junsu-hyung would have done that already.” Changmin chuckled. “I don’t go looking for trouble, Yunho. Besides, it’s Hyunsik who goes out of his way to find me and cause trouble.”
“Min.” I frowned leaning back with narrowed eyes. “Kang Hyunsik is crazy. He really tried to kill you and Yoochun. And I... I almost did the same thing.”
“Yunho, you and I both know that that’s not the same thing!” Changmin said. “You were just trying to protect us.”
“No.” I countered. “I hate him. I hate him enough to kill him. I wanted to cut him to pieces. Even now just… If Yoochun hadn’t stopped me then, I would’ve done what he wanted to do to you.”
“But you didn’t.” Changmin said. “And that’s the difference between the two of you.”
“Just promise me you’ll do as I say.” I almost begged. “I’m serious. Just please. Please do as I say. For me.”
Changmin just looked at me for a moment before sighing and nodding.
“Thank you.” I murmured.

Interlude: CHANGMIN
“Somehow, I imagined this scenario happening.” Hyunsik remarked as he entered the empty classroom I was in. “I’d worry if you’d suddenly become scared to talk or even see me especially after what I’d almost succeeded in doing.”
I looked at him with hate in my eyes before deciding to speak.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared.” I admitted. “But I do admire you for one thing: you can act on whatever you feel. I once had thoughts that it would feel so good if I could kill all the bad people in this world.”
“But that was just wishful thinking on my part.”
“I don’t have what it takes to take the life of another person. It’s just my own fantastical view in living out a secret desire.”
“Maybe if I did kill someone, I’d probably end up losing what humanity I have left. I’d just become a shell of the person I once was, just there, just existing.”
“I had a hard time understanding Yunho the first time I encountered him.” I remembered. “He seemed so simple yet so complicated at the same time. It’s difficult to explain but you,” I paused to look at him. “You would be easy to read, Hyunsik-sshi. Like an open book.”
“Because all I see is someone dark and twisted, who is so full of hate and anger at the world.” I said without looking away. “You are nothing like Jung Yunho at all.”
“Changmin-sshi,” Hyunsik spoke. “I might want to be like Yunho-sunbae but the reality is, I’m more similar to you and to an extent, Yoochun as well.” He smiled though his eyes stayed cold and empty. “It’s just too bad that we will never see eye to eye.”

I looked at Yoochun. He sat beside me with his headphones on with his music sheets in front of him propped up by a fat cushion. He was scribbling away as he listened intently to the music. I shifted beside him so that I sat facing him before reaching out to slide his headphones off his ears.
“Min?” Yoochun asked. “What’s wrong?” he asked giving me a curious look.
I looked at him for a moment, remembering Hyunsik’s words from that day on the roof.
“When are you planning on telling them, Chun?” I asked deciding to be blunt.
Surprise and fear flashed in Yoochun’s eyes before he looked away with a sigh.
“I don’t know.” Yoochun answered. “I’m scared.”
I would be too, if I was in Yoochun’s shoes.
