Title: Heart of a Feather
Rating: PG
A/N: It's very short, plot-less, and based very loosely on "The Robe of Feathers" with Jane Yolen's "The Hundredth Dove" lurking somewhere in the background. Please enjoy.

It was a single white feather, trembling and fragile in Yoochun's palm.
A warm shadow touching his fingers made him look up, into Junsu's smiling face. Amongst his collection of smiles, this one belonged solely to Micky, a quiet expression of tenderness, tiny flicker of a soul being offered.
The feather too, seemed to react to Junsu's presence, fluttering minutely, as if trying to attract his attention.
Yoochun smiled as he extended his hand, his best friend's fingertips brushing at the lost tiny part of life soaring somewhere in the sky.
"For you."
"Thank you..." Junsu folded Yoochun's fingers close over the feather and smiled again, "but I'd rather you kept it, hyung."

Ever since you met him, you've discovered that the sounds around you could form numerous constellations of melody instead of driving you insane and insomniac. Ever since you met him, you'd sacrifice most of your free time to slowly, delicately weave the notes into necklaces worthy of being clasped around Junsu's throat. You never questioned it, the way his voice made you shiver with anticipation, hold your breath in sheer bliss. He permeated your soul as naturally as rain falls, familiar like the insides of your wrists, the feel of piano keys, the position you sleep in.

The best hiding place is out in the open. I hide myself in sounds, fluttering of the air, searching for release. It's always on the fringe of my conscience, just a breath, a note, a feather-like movement away. If I could hold on to a high note for exactly the right time, if I could turn in a flawless synch with the pause in melody, if I could wrap myself in his music for long enough to have it imprinted on my skin... that's when the perfect song would find me.

You were dreaming. Only in dreams you wouldn't be alarmed by the fact that your feather started moving in your palm, urging you to step out of the room, onto the balcony. Only in dreams you wouldn't be surprised by a pair of wings closing around you, Junsu's breath in your ear, his heartbeat against your back. Only in dreams you would turn around and kiss him, trying to blend him into you.
He smiled at you, his voice rising in a perfect tune you were sure you wouldn't remember in the morning, his fingers slipping out of your grasp.
The feather moved again, anxiously. You could swear you heard it crying along with you...
He kissed your eyelids then, warm and light like the first ray of sun on your skin.
"Please, Chunnie-ah, keep it safe for me."

Yoochun woke up choking on his sobs, his hyungs barging into his room, speaking one over the other, but he already knew, Junsu had to leave, Junsu was not there, Junsu was gone.
"He'll be back before we know it" Jaejoong hugged him tightly while Changmin brushed at his tears with his fingertips. After a while Yunho gathered both of them into his arms and led them out of the room, silently asking Yoochun to pull himself together, if just for umma and dongsaeng's sake.
Micky nodded. His throat felt parched and dry, the light in his eyes harsh and cold, and every breath hurt. Sweeping the broken pieces of his dream deep under the magic carpet of his mind he willed his fists to open, his body to relax. A tiny sound, a whisper of the wind at his temple made him pause and look around.
It was a single white feather, glowing on his pillow.
