AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa State student whose body was found in College Creek Tuesday morning has been identified as Jacob B. Hobson, 27.
Hobson lived at 4606 Ontario St., #10, in Ames. ISU directory information indicates he was a senior from Eldora, majoring in psychology.
An autopsy was conducted July 20 by Dr. Dennis Klein, assistant state medical examiner. Preliminary results indicated that Hobson died as a result of drowning and blunt force trauma to the head. Investigators have found no indications of foul play, and, while the case remains under investigation, the death appears to have been the result of an accidental fall. Final determination of the cause and manner of death is pending the results of medical tests.
This was one of the blind students I worked with for the past two years. He was EXTREMELY smart and due to graduate soon. I just saw him about 10 days ago when I did his final exams for him for summer classes and now I found out that he is dead. What a horrible way for me to end my time here at Iowa State. This is the third death of a student with a disability in my two years of working at the office, but this one hit close to home since I was the staff member that worked with him. I now realize that it is going to be hard and challenging working with college students at times and even though we say that we do not get emotionally attached, I beg to differ.
Rest In Peace, Jacob! I will miss you!
