♠ Clubs and Extracurricular ♠

Choir
The choir is an extracurricular activity. Members of the choir will work together to choreograph, coordinate, and hold performances over the course of the school year for various events. Membership is open year round, but some rehearsal dates are mandatory for every performance, so if you are interested in taking part in any of the performances, please make sure to sign up within the appropriate time frames. Those interested in working behind the scenes are also welcome to help with the staging.

Dance
For both amateurs and experienced dancers, this club is an interactive and fun way to exercise and express your creativity. The club doesn't focus on one style, but actually explores many different genres, from traditional and classic to modern and hip-hop. Members are encouraged to share the styles that interest them.

Dueling Club
Led by our Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, dueling is a chance for students to gain additional practical experience in the practice of defensive and offensive wandwork. Any and all students are permitted to sign up, but a waiver will need to be signed by that student's parents and a properly functioning wand is required. Students will review forms learned in class, as well as learn new ones that they may apply in individual duels overlooked by the Professor in charge.

Fencing
Led by skilled older students, this club's activities will focus on regular competition and combat. Protective gear and foils will be provided, so anyone and everyone is encouraged to join. For beginners, a variety of techniques will be introduced in group sessions with the instructor. More advanced students will have a chance to hone their skills in combat against one another. In the spirit of exercise and fun, this club is a great way to take one's mind off the daily worries of life.

Gardening Club
Approved, but not led by our resident Herbologist, students will meet weekly to tend to and maintain the campus gardens. Club dues will go to gardening supplies, as well as seeds to develop the garden with. Anything the students harvest will be equally distributed among the members, and the items may be sold at the monthly openings for the school's market miniature version of a farmer's market.

Language Club
Whether you have lived abroad or just have an interest in learning foreign languages, please stop by a meeting of the Language Club for a taste of what you've been missing. This club meets weekly for practice, discussion, and entertainment. Foreign book and movie recommendations are welcome, and snacks will be available at meetings. Sign-ups for language exchange partners will be posted every week.

Book Club
Students with a love of reading are encouraged to join the Book Club, which meets bi-weekly to discuss assigned books from a variety of genres. Students must attend having done the required reading and ready to participate in debate and discussion over relevant themes and topics. Suggestions for reading material from members are more than welcome. If anybody is interested in leading or facilitating a discussion, they may sign up on the board. The first three meetings will be led by the club's president.

Drama Club
The drama club puts on one musical and three plays over the course of a school year. All but the first of the works are decided upon by the members and productions are coordinated by the students, as well, so those dedicated to the craft (whether it be in acting or stage design) are encouraged to join. Membership and auditions are open during two week periods four times a year, to correspond to the production times. Those interested in working year-round as the stage manager should apply as soon as possible. Our first production of the year will be A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.

Tai Chi and Meditation
Led by our Magical Energies Professor, this club focuses on harnessing and manipulating energy and the life-force emanating from one's own body in order to create a sense of peace and harmony with the surrounding environment. There are two components that will receive equal emphasis: the physical and the mental. Meditation will center and focus the mind. It is by no means a way to empty it, but rather to organize and clarify those thoughts that may be muddled by the confusion of energy within and around the body. Various techniques will be presented in the class. Students are more than welcome to bring their own grounding items with them, whether it be prayer beads or whatever else they are used to. Tai Chi is a physical means of directing one's energy to create a sense of wholesomeness throughout all the body, for the sake of general well-being. Students signing up for this course should be aware that Tai Chi as a martial arts is intended for defensive and healthful purposes only.

KiCheonMun
Those interested in practicing KiCheon may take instruction from our resident Master. All levels may apply, though sessions may be divided according to the relative proficiency of students within. Coaching is available for those interested in competition, though off-campus competitions that interfere with class schedules will require permission to attend and all missed classwork must be made up. This respected wizarding art teaches the student to develop and use a deep connection to their own energy combined with 6 traditional stances and flowing movement, in defensive and offensive combat. Students who have backgrounds in muggle martial arts are welcome to join and learn techniques for incorporating energy flow into their own personal style.

Bridging the Gap
A place for those transitioning from the Muggle world into the Wizarding world to connect with others like them, as well as to learn more about all the Wizarding world has to offer. The goal of the club is to build a sense of solidarity between all members of the Wizarding world, as well as to educate and broaden the experiences of those students new to it. This club is open to anyone interested in helping to Bridge the Gap between the Magical and Non-Magical worlds. Meetings will act as a sort of cultural exchange.

Junior Quidditch
For those students who are unable to participate with their House Teams, Junior Quidditch is an opportunity to continue practice in the sport during the Quidditch season. Headed by our Flying Instructor, Junior Quidditch will coordinate students into four teams (not necessarily their House Teams) and will hold regular matches throughout the season. Look out for announcements, spectators are also welcome.

Staff Quidditch
Another Quidditch team, just for fun. Staff can meet on agreeable weekends to unwind and enjoy some Quidditch. They may occasionally organize games with the student Quidditch teams off season to give them additional practice.
