This AM, I bought an external hard drive (Buffalo DriveStation, 250GB: $170 from Fry's electronics) to solve a couple of problems:
1) taking a significant amount of music with me to NYC on Saturday for my 4 month stay
2) taking all my important files from my desktop without having to burn 5 million CDs and then not be able to find anything when I need it.
The problem that the external hard drive does not solve is that the monitor on my laptop still doesn't function, so I am looking to buy an external monitor in NYC when I arrive. It was looking like it would cost me $600+ to fix my monitor, and at least $1100 to get a new laptop. The $170 I spent on the hard drive (and then there's the surprise $30 mail-in rebate I will get) and the craigslist seemed much more economical. Thanks to
zebe, I have a wireless card for my ancient laptop so I can use the wireless internet in my new apartment.
There is so much left to do, and I may lose my mind as I watch my time disappear with very little getting accomplished.
Things to do:
-laundry
-ransack storage for anything I may need (like winter clothes)
- organize room and put things in storage so to allow my parents to use the room I have been staying in while I am gone for the next 4 months+/-
-interview at 5PM with some woman who called me at 8AM this morning for a summer gig in Turkey (assuming I end up being available)
-dinner with a friend tonight
-potluck with work folks tomorrow
-organize my portfolios, so that, if necessary, they can be sent to me for interviews, etc.
-book hotel near JFK for late Saturday night
-countless other small tasks that I cannot think of
-PACK for four months in NYC
Seriously, I was actually hoping for a little unemployment so that I could get my life organized, and never have to deal with this particular situation.
Oh well...
