I'm in love with this man. This interview is an old one, but since he doesn't appear much in TV Bangumi, it's still a great interview any Joe fan shouldn't miss.
So Odagiri Joe appeared in a TV Bangumi called Top Runner. Both hosts collaborated with Joe in tv dramas before.
They let Joe sit down and talked a bit about his outfit there.
Joe said that he hasn't appeared in this kind of talk show for 3-4 years.
The guy was like "I always think this dude likes to keep a mysterious look, as if there are lots of secrets behind"
He mentioned their collaboration in
Shinsengumi (2004)
so they introduced a bit of his movies released/will be released in 2005
no ieda about the first one
In the Pool (2005)
Scrap Heaven ,
Trailer (2005)
Shinobi (2005) -
soompi threadMaison de Himiko (2005)
so Joe was in seven movies in 2005
Joe said that except Yume no Naka e, the shooting of other six movies were during the same time he's doing
Shinsengumi the guy asked about his health under such a hectic schedule
Joe answered that his health went worse when he's not working
the Hosts were talking about how Joe was admired by actors/actresses for collaborating with so many different directors.
They asked if Joe chose movie project firstly based on script
Joe said that from the very beginning he's his own fan, so he's the one has the biggest expectation to see how Odagiri Joe presents in each movie.
Of course he'll also consider things like the director, the script and the cast. He'll accept the offer if there's something interests him.
so they started to talk about his movie
Maison de Himiko (one of my favorite movies done by Joe)
In this movie, Joe acted as a beautiful homosexual who hired the daughter of his dying lover for the father's last days.
Joe said that he didn't have much confidence at first but he really wanted to work with the director
Isshin Inudo love how he sits on the sofa~so cute %&^*&*
The time for shooting
Maison de Himiko (Nov/Dec 2004) was the same time for the last part of
Shinsengumi Joe said that he was really exhausted there, but his role in Maison actually needs to give a fatigue kind of feeling, so the tiredness indeed helped him to build the character, and he thought he's quite lucky in that way.
Then they talked about Shinobi
Joe said that he at first refused the offer because he thought the character doesn't suit him and Odagiri Joe isn't a must for the character.
so he refused for many times, but the director insisted to invite him.
"Can a person sloppy like me really do such a hero like character? But the director kept saying that the character belongs to me. His passion for his work really moved me, so I think I might miss something if I don't take the role.
Honestly I agree with Joe in refusing the character in Shinobi. Although in the end it brought him lots of popularity, I still think it's one of the least impressive characters done by him~(don't kill me Shinobi fans;P)
the guy said both Joe's projects and the content of his projects were admired by many, for example the kiss scene of Joe and Yukie. He thought Joe must be the eyesore among high school audience
Joe alughed and fell a bit on the sofa (cute~I love his Kiriyama kind of facial expression there XD)
Joe then said his dream is to be an excellent actor who's admired by the ppl in the same profession, and he'll say that again in the end of this talk show
XD
I love you Joe for being so egocentric~
the girl mentioned the versatility of Joe's acting. Every character looks so different (Joe's moving his body like a kid there~;P)
Joe then went like "you really watched my works seriously ne~"
They started to talk about acting
Joe thought that over-reading the script is not necessary because one might think too much and gets lost in the end. Only in the real shooting one can really present the role.
However come to the topic of on-scene, it also brings him a disgusting feeling that he might fail to express well when he's right there.
They then talked about how strict with details some director can be
Joe mentioned the director of Platonic Sex (2001)
"At first I was very confident with the part rolling over in bed when sleeping. However when I lied down I was told it was not right. I was told that my acting didn't give a realistic look of rolling over in bed. So what should it be?
The director tends to show exactly how to do it, instead of asking for original acting from the actors
The guy then asked if the director's acting had a realstic look
Joe answered not at all~
XD
