Teach me how to dance 2/11

Sep 29, 2010 21:49

"Wow, I didn't know we had a dance studio," Taemin mumbles as we enter. I nod, surveying the room. The room's full of bright lights, the walls are mirrors, and the floor is slick and shiny. I scan the room for any familar faces but not many. There was that hyper girl from my art class, that guy who's always sleeping in Math class, the guy who makes all of his projects out of gummy worms. . . A bunch of weirdos, huh?

"Amber!"

I turn to see Taemin flinging himself on to some guy I've never seen. Taemin says something to him and he laughs. I stand there awkwardly. Don't you hate when your best friend hugs someone you don't know in front of you? I mean. . . They could be closer than you guys are! I don't know, maybe I'm just strange like that.

"The name's Amber," the boy says to me. Ok so obviously I was staring too long. Not only did I just realize I was staring but once 'he' talked, it was obviously not a guy. Amber smiles, "Am I that hot?"

"Augh, no," I say quickly and curse myself. Wrong move! "I mean- not that you aren't hot it's just- no I mean. . . Augh."

Just shut up Jonghyun.

"It's a joke, man," she laughs and hits my arm. I rub it as she winks. "Don't worry, most guys don't think I am. I look too much like a 'guy' for their tastes."

"Are you. . . ?" I start but realize how rude I was being and shut my mouth. Her eyes lit up.

"Am I a lesbian?" she asks. She didn't seem offended or anything so I nod.

"I don't know, would you not talk to me if I was?"

"No that's not it-"

"Chill out," she winks again and I laugh. I already like her.

"If you're done flirting with Jonghyun," Taemin says, pulling me away from her and towards the middle of the floor where the other members were starting to gather. The gummy worm kid makes some space for us and in the middle of the circle is a thin boy with silky black hair. He has a sweet look on his face that makes me feel more comfortable.

"Okay quiet down please."

His voice surprises me. I expect something soft and gentle but it's clear and firm. The room quiets down and he looks down at his clipboard, scribbling something down.

"I'm happy to see so many new faces in our club this year!" he cheers. A few people clap and then it grows quiet again.

"We have a total of twenty two members this year, seven are former members, fifteen are new. . ."

He continues talking but it feels like I'm in class again so I begin to doze off. I feel a tiny jolt in my stomach when my eyes zone ac ross the room. I hear a soft click from the door he slips in through. His hair seems messier today then it did yesterday but his eyes look refreshed. I watch in silent amusement as he sips on his can of coffee and I wonder if it's hot or iced. Why should those things matter to me? I want to know. I want to know how he likes his coffee. I want to know how it tastes because watching him close his eyes as if he's savoring every drop fills me with curiousity. But. . . Is it really the coffee I want to taste?

I'm really getting out of hand here! Why is it that he stays, leaning against the wall instead of joining the group over here? Maybe he's heard all of this before. . .

"So those are the basic rules, any questions? How about you? You in the plaid shirt."

I jump a little and look down. Aw great.

"Nope, nothing," I say with a friendly smile. He squints at me for a moment, scrutinizing my features or something- it's starting to get a bit uncomfortable. . .

"Hey, don't pick on the new kid," Amber says, hitting his arm. He waves her off, "where are my manners? I'm Onew, the club advisor if you haven't figured that out. Let's have a good year and if you try to quit our club. . . I'll kill you."

Silence.

"Joking, joking! Ahaha! I crack myself up!"

He checks over his clipboard and walks in the direction of 'him'. They start to talk about something but Onew's expression doesn't seem too happy. Is he mad that he was late?

"That's Kibum," I hear from next to my ear. I jump back, my heart sky rocketing in to the sky.

"Don't worry I won't spill your secret," Amber smirks and I feel my skin lighting on fire. "Wh-what?! S-Secret?"

"Oh, mr. Jonghyun sounding nervous? Stuttering even?! I'm shocked!"

"Huh?"

"Dumbfounded too? I guess you're not the cool guy everyone thinks you are," she laughs and I blush even harder. What does she know about me?!

"Don't make stuff up on your own!" I shout and she just continues laughing. Taemin creeps up next to us and I quickly change the subject. Taemin knows that I don't care about gender, like him, but I've never had an actual crush on a guy before. There was this one guy in second grade who I had a little thing for but it was second grade! You can't truly have a crush in second grade!

"Onew said we were finished today so I guess we can head home," Taemin says and Amber says she has some stuff to finish at school. On the way home, Taemin was in the middle of telling me about the food fight at lunch when I groaned.

"Aw man, I think I left my ipod."

"How did you do that?! When were you listening to it?"

"I wasn't. . . Amber took it while Onew was talking and she said she would leave it on the comfy bench in the back while I used the bathroom! I forgot to get it!"

"Want me to go with you?" he asks. I shake my head, "It's fine, I'll catch you later."

"Alright," Taemin waves, "See you tomorrow! Be careful hyung!"

I wave, check my watch and set off to get my ipod back.
