"How do I look?" Taemin pouted to his boyfriend who was almost drooling in his seat. The tight pants really suited the boy's thin legs and the shirt brought out his pretty eyes. Minho gulped, "uh-"
"You look awesome," Jinki grinned and ruffled his friend's hair until it was messy, earning a displeased whine. Minho daydreamed about what he was going to get Taemin to do with him, once they were alone together that night, and Taemin gave him a puzzled look.
"Where's Kibum? Isn't he going?" Jinki asked in the silence and the other two froze up. Minho shot Taemin a worried glance. Of course Jinki didn't know that Kibum was in love with his boyfriend, that would ruin a friendship and relationship for sure, so they weren't sure what to say.
"Um, I think they got in to a fight or something-" Taemin started but Minho cut him off.
"He said he didn't feel good."
Jinki frowned, "Oh. Well that's not fun. Out of all the people not to make it to Jonghyun's eighteenth birthday party, I thought he would be the last."
Nobody spoke so he clapped his hands together with a smile. "I'm sure he would come if he could so let's just hope he isn't feeling too bad! You guys ready to leave? We'll check on him after the party to make sure he's ok."
Minho nodded and the three grabbed their coats to set off for Jonghyun's place. He watched Jinki's back carefully and felt a sudden sadness. This man was far too kind and it made him squirm and feel even worse. If Jinki wasn't the way he was, Minho would surely try to break his and Jonghyun's relationship and Kibum wouldn't be having all these dizzy spells.
It was a few weeks ago when Kibum started feeling ill and refused to get out of the house. He tried to come and check up on him but the stubborn guy refused to let him help. He said he just needed some time alone to get over whatever was bothering him and Minho didn't pursue any further.
He was sure it was about Jonghyun.
As much as Minho admired him, Jonghyun could be an oblivious, arrogant bastard sometimes and it really pissed Minho off. The way he flirted with Jinki, in front of everyone was disgusting but it wasn't just that, the fact that he did it in front of Kibum made Minho cringe. Could Jonghyun not see the love in Kibum's eyes? Was he that idiotic? Or did he choose not to see it?
"You ok?"
Minho glanced up to see Taemin's soft eyes and he felt his heart swell. "Great, let's go."
Taemin smiled and they intertwined their fingers before catching up with Jinki.

"Birthday boy!" Jinki grinned. Jonghyun rolled his eyes, "I'm not two years old, Onew!"
They hugged and Jonghyun let them in. The house seemed to have no space, despite the massive size, because of all the bodies moving to the music blasting from the speaker in the living room.
Taemin's mouth dropped in awe at all the colorful lights decorating the walls and Minho had to pull him away from the shiny stars dangling from the ceiling. "Jeez, you're like a little kid!"
Jonghyun brought them upstairs to his room, which was also very large, and shut the door behind him. The music downstairs was much quieter and Jonghyun cocked a brow.
"You can sit, you know."
They all found somewhere to sit and the 'birthday boy' slumped in to a purple bean bag chair in the corner with a sigh. "Sorry, I wanted to get somewhere quiet for a minute. It's been hell down there."
"Why the big party then?" Jinki laughed. Jongyun shrugged, "I don't know. Eighteen is the year of partying or something, right?"
It grew quiet again and Taemin shivered. Jonghyun cocked his head to the open door behind them. "Sorry, I like to go on the balcony a lot. You can close the door."
Minho snapped the door closed and cuddled next to his boyfriend again. It suddenly hit him. Jinki was sitting on the other side of the room from Jonghyun. They weren't sitting together. In all the time they've been dating, it was hard enough to separate them. Did they get in to a fight? Maybe Jinki was giving him space since it was his birthday? No, that didn't make sense.
"Oh, your present," Taemin blurted and hopped up. He pulled a bright red box out of his pocket and handed it to the blond with a grin, "I hope you like it, hyung!"
Jonghyun smiled and unwrapped it messily. If it was dainty Kibum, they would have waited an hour for the package to be opened. His eyes widened and the smile on his face widened.
"This isn't-"
"Yup," Taemin said. "Minho and I both pitched in for you."
Jonghyun nuzzled the set of shiny car keys like a kitten and flew across the room to hug his hyungs. He almost suffocated Taemin but stopped the second he saw Minho's dark look. He jumped on Minho and Taemin chuckled.
"I can't fucking believe you guys, I hate you," he sobbed. Jinki had to pull him away before he killed the two of them. "Spending all that money, dammit," he continued complaining. They were all shocked because even though it was tears of joy, crying was something Jonghyun never did.
"Thank you, I actually love you."
They all laughed and Taemin looked at Jinki, "what did you get him hyung?"
"Hey, it wasn't so extravagant, but I did ok. You'll get your gift later," he winked at Jonghyun who smirked and pocketed the keys he just received. "So ready to party, guys?" he asked and looked at Taemin. "There's marshmallow smoothies downstairs, just for you."
Taemin's face lit up and he raced out of the room as fast as Sonic . Jinki ran after him, "wait up!"
"Just for him because nobody drinks those, yuck," Jonghyun said and Minho chuckled. He stared at him after a moment and Jonghyun turned to him suddenly. "So. . ."
"So?"
"So he. . ."
"Yeah. He didn't want to come, he called in sick."
"My ass," Jonghyun glared at nothing in particular. He seemed unable to meet Minho's eyes.
"Emotionally sick," Minho added and stepped closer. He gave Jonghyun a thoughtful yet piercing stare because he hated how he could be this way.
"So I've heard."
"Oh," Minho said and noted to have a talk with Taemin about his big mouth later. That kid could really be a handful sometimes.
"I'm sure it's not your fault," Minho said, "that you're breaking his heart over and over. Nope, not one bit. It's also not your fault that he's who knows where right now, lost, confused, and he's probably cold. Okay, so that's exaggerating but you get my point. Don't worry though, he's fine. He doesn't need you at all."
Jonghyun's eyes flashed up and Minho was taken back. He expected fury but they were actually coated with sadness and hurt. Guilt too?
"I'm fluent in sarcasm, you know."
"Good to know."
"Thanks for the car."
"Enjoy it," Minho answered sincerely. He didn't mean to make Jonghyun feel like crap even if he deserved it. But in a way, he didn't. If Jonghyun wasn't in love with Kibum, there was nothing Minho nor Taemin nor anyone else could do about that. Not even Jonghyun himself.
The silence lingered over them and it wasn't awkward nor uncomfortable, just silence. Jonghyun traced circles in to the carpet with his shoe and dared not to make any other eye contact with Minho who was staring at him with hard eyes.
Seeing the boy looking so fragile made Minho rethink his words. He sighed softly and his eyes softened, "Listen Jonghyun, I didn't mean-"
"Tell Jinki that I won't be needing that birthday present," Jonghyun said suddenly. His eyes blazed with determination and he looked like he had made an important decision.
"Tell him I'm sorry."
With nothing left to say, Jonghyun ran out of the room and Minho felt an odd feeling spread over him. So, he wasn't as oblivious as he made everyone believe. He paced slowly down the stairs and met Jinki and Taemin in the kitchen. They were having a smoothie drinking contest.
Minho analyzed Jinki's adorable features and felt a tinge of pain hit his chest. He was going to tell him what Jonghyun had said. Would Jinki ever smile the same? That sweet, innocent smile that seemed to cause everyone to feel better. He knew it would hurt to say and it would hurt to hear but not everyone can be happy, right?
But why couldn't they be?

It was a soft knocking that woke the dark haired boy up. He rubbed his eyes and squinted in to the darkness at the bright green clock on the wall. It was close to midnight. Who the hell had business with him this late at night?
He shuffled to the door without ease, his head beating with every step. Why did he have to have these stupid headaches all the time now?
"If this is some kind of joke I'm going to shank somebody," Kibum murmured groggily in to the nothingness and unlocked the door. He jumped back with a squeal as it swung open, the cool air hitting him in the face.
"J-Jonghyun?!" he shouted. His best friend was panting and his hair was a mess, like his clothes. A dark feeling crept over Kibum. Was he drunk again? Well, was he actually drunk this time?
"What the he-"
"Shhh," Jonghyun panted and his breath started to return to him. He straightened up and tried to fix his hair but it was pointless. Kibum didn't know what to do or to say for that matter. It was just like that night that happened a few weeks ago, except Kibum wasn't waiting for him this time.
"Look, I don't have time for this right now-"
"Is that all you got?"
"W-What?"
Jonghyun rolled his eyes, "All you got to say?"
Kibum furrowed his brow and turned away, "Yeah it is," he mumbled, "Get out."
There was no sign of movement so he turned to him again, "Did you not hear me?"
"I heard what you said," he smirked, "I just didn't hear what I wanted to."
"What am I supposed to say, huh?! That you're really stupid for waking me up at this time of the night, coming to my door like some creeper, looking like you just ran from a tornado- I don't' know what to say!"
"How about," the short boy sighed, "happy birthday?"
Kibum's throat went dry and he brought his eyes to the floor. He hadn't forgotten, he just wished he had. Of course Jonghyun wouldn't want to be bothered with Kibum at the party, he would have Jinki. Who knows what kind of rated R things Kibum would have seen if he wouldn't have stayed home. He was having a nice nap earlier. Not thinking about Jonghyun's stupid party or stupid face. . . Or stupid smile. . . He wasn't thinking about him at all. Nope.
"Happy birthday," he stated in monotone. "Happy? Bye."
"I don't like this attitude," Jonghyun frowned and leaned closer to Kibum, causing the latter to blush. "Cranky? Did you just wake up?"
"No shit," Kibum glared and stepped back from Jonghyun's advance.
He wanted to shut the door in the others face but Jonghyun reached out and touched his hand, tentatively. "I want you to come somewhere with me."
"No," Kibum glowered and pulled away from the affection again. His face was a tomato at this point and he had to turn away to keep Jonghyun from seeing.
"Too bad. It's my birthday and since you didn't get me a present or come to my party, you have no choice."
"Wha-"
"Hush," Jonghyun said softly and pulled on to Kibum's hand, guiding him out of the house and down the street. Kibum forgot how to breathe as he allowed the other boy to pull him to who knows where and it bothered him how this was happening. Why did Jonghyun have such an affect on him?
"What is this?" Kibum asked as they came to a stopping point. They were standing in the middle of a huge field in the middle of the night.
"A baseball field," Jonghyun responded, leaning against the fence. He kept his eyes on Kibum the whole time.
"I know that," Kibum glared and looked around in confusion, "I mean. .. Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why did you drag me here?"
"Because I wanted to."
Kibum felt like strangling himself but tried to keep calm. "Look Jonghyun, I'm tired. Do you want something or are you trying to play some kind of joke on me?"
"I want something," Jonghyun said timidly. Whoah, hold up, timidly? He actually sounded shy and it startled Kibum.
"And that is. . ?" Kibum asked nervously. He was afraid to know. In all the time he's known Jonghyun, he's never heard him sounding so quiet and timid. He was always blunt and honest so it was hard for him to imagine Jonghyun sounding like that, much less hearing it for real.
"If you don't know what it is then I'm certainly not the oblivious one in this situation," Jonghyun sighed and grabbed the fence's cool metal.
"You make so much sense," Kibum grimaced sarcastically and tried to imagine himself in a warm bed with a cup of hot chocolate.
"Well, you don't make any sense to me."
Jonghyun moved until he was in front of Kibum who didn't move this time. "You're confusing and it bothers me. Don't you realize what you do to people?"
"I think you have me mixed up with yourself," Kibum retorted and fiddled with the hem of a pocket on his jeans.
"How complicated can I be? I confessed to your face barely a month ago and you still don't know why I brought you here? Why I showed up on your doorstep? Did you forget everything I said to you already? Did you forget what happened the last time I showed up at your doorstep?"
Kibum's heart beats became uneven and erratic in his chest as Jonghyun's words flowed out.
"Now," Jonghyun continued, "do you know what I want?"
Kibum didn't respond and all he could think about was how soft Jonghyun's lips were the last time they saw each other. His eyes fell on the others lips and he felt a jolt of electricity go through him as Jonghyun pulled him closer.
"You, Key. You," he murmered and pressed their lips together. Almost instantly, Kibum threw his arms around Jonghyun's neck and deepend the kiss. He entangled his fingers in to the shorter boy's hair as if it were second nature.
The headache diminished and his heart decided to stop hurting. The earth seemed to move beneath Kibum and his head swam with dizziness. But it felt amazing.
This must be what it's like to be drunk, Kibum thought. So the other night, Jonghyun was drunk?
Standing there, under the stars, Kibum remembered what Jonghyun had told him.
Well, Kibum thought, you're not the only one who's intoxicated, Jonghyun.
jonghyun,
shinee,
yokomya,
