My exam today went pretty much exactly as I expected.
My right eye is perfect. My left is slightly lower quality. Chances are, unless it gets worse, it will never be a significant impediment. Hell, it maybe that it was always like that, but I only now noticed it.
...the problem is, now that I've noticed it, it bugs the crap out of me.
Regardless, the doctor placed a contact lens into my left eye so I can decide if the benefit is worth the cost. He asked me to come back in a week, and I can keep the lens in for as long as 30 days to test it out.
Really, I am trying out the contact lens in an effort to challenge my fear of damaging or touching my eye. I was extremely jumpy when the doctor placed the lens, and I would like very much to get over that.
In reality, since this is more of a minor annoyance than a major issue, I am likely going to hold onto the prescription and pick up a pair of glasses when I can afford them. That way I can wear them only when the discrepancy in my vision annoys me (i.e. while driving at night), and take them off whenever I want without having to dig around in my eyeball.
One final interesting note. With the lens in, according to the doc, my left eye is slightly better than 20/20. Yet it is still just slightly more blurry than my right eye. Still, the world hasn't been this in focus for a long time.
