Aside from the Newark area, New Jersey is totally not what I expected. I see why they call it the Garden State now. It really is beautiful out here. The red-eye flight sucked on the way over hear. First of all it was assigned seating, and it was a red-eye. So chances of me scoring on the plane were nill. I tried to strike up with a cute chick on the plane as we stood in line for our seats. She had a window seat a few rows up from me, but a little hispanic girl was sitting in it, and her mom didn't speak English. The girl was probably 4 years old and didn't want to move, and the mother didn't understand that they had to move. So while they switched seats, I got a few words in, but that's all. I couldn't really sleep on the plane, the guy next to me kept shifting and bumping into me. Then on top of that, the air, or the passengers, caused my nose to clog up. The descent sucked not only because of the pressure pressing inward on my sinus (just my right), but also because it was very turbulent.
We landed and David picked us up and we took a nice hour long drive to my Aunt's house. She lives on a 2 acre property, and of course had to show us around. It was a beautiful day, so my allergies really sucked ass. I took a Claratin to no avail. Then we went to my Aunt's stepson's daughter's sixth birthday. Haha, I know that got confusing. Basically, my once removed step-cousin's birthday (Marissa). What a beautiful family. They also have a 2 year old son, Christian. Matt, if you're reading this, I found a little-Ian. He hates eating meat, only eats foods like french fries, cereal, bread, and tortilla chips.
Unfortunately my allergies were bad so I couldn't interact with many people without dripping snot all over the place, plus I coudln't play with the kids caues they had all their friends over. I'm excited because they're coming over for dinner on Friday! That night, we went to "dinner" at this place called The California Grill. I say "dinner" because none of us were hungry, and between the 6 of us, we ordered one salad and one small pizza. I bet the waitress was real disappointed. I saw a young, very pretty girl there eating dinner with her handicapped mother. Her mother was both mentally and physically handicapped, I'm assuming from some sort of traumatic accident. I got to thinking on how unfortunate for this young girl to have to take care of her mother for the rest of her life. She practically had to feed her. God I hope my kids grow up healthy.
Anyhoo, I got some Benadryl and nasal spray after dinner for my allergies. I always wondered how nasal spray worked. Now I know that you are basically just squirting a low concentration on Hydro-chloric acid up your nose to dissolve all the mucus. It actually stings like hell at first. Then I thought, what if you mistakenly took them for your eye drops. Oops! Thanks to my allergies and the Benadryl, I slept like a babe and had no problem waking up at 7AM EST (4AM PST) for our trip today.
Today we went to the Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. I pretty much slept on the trip there, and even though I took a Claratin sans symptoms, I still got mild allergies and the indoor conservatories only made it worse. I sat outside near the lilyponds and listened to my iPod and drifted away looking at the water. It was real nice. After lunch there, my sister didn't want to see the second half, so she pretended to go to the bathroom with my dad and the two went to sit down at the visitors center. I took this opportunity to go on my own, because attached to the gardens was this Forrest Walk which was about a 2 mile trail into an un-touched forrest and meadow. That was totally awesome. That's the kind of plants and trees I want to see, not some sculptered bush. These east coast forrests are amazing. The tree cover is litereally like a roof, shading the ground, and the best part was that I was alone. At the end of the trail was the Hourglass lake, which really was just a small pond. But this was a natural pond and actually had bass and bluegill in it! How I wished I had a fishing pole.
After the gardens we drove back and ate Sal's, my aunt's friend, house. He's from Italy, so the food was amazing. Great antipasta, great salad, great seafood spaghetti, and great lobster-stuffed-salmon. In addition, he makes his own wine and served a mix of Merlot, Cab, and Shiraz which was sooo jammy and sooo good. Plus he and his girlfriend are great people as well. We're going to invite them over for dinner on Friday too.
We're hitting up the
George Nakashima studio tomorrow. Apparently I might be a distant relative. Cool. Then we're going to New York to see the Lion King on Broadway. Even though I've already seen it, I'm obviously excited. It's a great show and I can imagine that it would have to be awesome on Broadway.
Oh yeah, our US Soccer team sucked Czech balls today, huh?
