Crocodiles and Octopusses...it must be Darwin!

Another Idol year has passed for us here in Australia, and this one proved to be probably the best Idol season since the very first. As I didn't really care who won anymore after my dear Dean Geyer was given the boot in third place, I wasn't that enthusiastic about watching the final this year, as neither was I any of the other years. Yet, since there were nothing better to do, and knowing that Dean would be making an appearance somewhere during the three hour stint, I settled down before the tele to watch this "Night of Nights".

Well, getting all the pre-ex-Idol schick over with, First Impressions:
- Andrew G has finally shaved! I guess Movember is over!
- Guy Sabastian's stage that rose up like an elevator with smoke coming out the bottom was very nearly upstaging him! Sorry Guy, but THAT was one COOL STAGE!
- Shannon Noll will never be able to get past his "What about Me?"...I noticed that when my 8 year old housemate leapt in joy at his appearance, only to sit sullenly through the song complaining "Why can't he sing What About Me?"

Okay, with that over and done with, we can finally get to the arrival of the final two contestants...on a crusty wooden horse carriage. Yes! I'm not kidding! After all the hype of their arrival being droned into us for an hour, after seeing them being led out by horsemen on horseback with flames giving us a reminder of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games (I wonder if they recycle the horses), after months of being reminded how "great" the Opera house red carpet moment is every year, we are treated to the sight of our two finalists standing inside a massive wooden crate with wheels...and the worse is still yet to come! Out steps Jess, the "naturally talented little treasure discovery from the outback"...in what seems to be her most hideous outfit yet! Okay, the little black dress is smart. The big bow on the front rimmed with pink/purple ribbon may be cute. But pink stockings, yellow socks, and glittered sandals?????? "Flamingos Alert! Your missing sister has been found strutting up the red pond by the side of the huge lily flower. Please come and collect her A.S.A.P as she seems to be imitating one of the Australian Idol finals contestant!"

Anyways, no one else seems to notice, so Flamingo-sister-impersonating-Jess continues her way up the steps with Damien, shaking hands with the audience and all that...boring boring stuff really...
Next, we are treated to the Top 10 singing a song that seems to repeat the same music a lot! Highlight was when Dean sang last of course! Ricky and Dean got the loudest screams from the crowd! Yay! Finally...finally...we actually make it into the Opera House! Hallelujah, bedtime!

Huh? What? It's not over yet???? O_O Oh yeah, we have to find out who wins! Hahhaa...
Okay, so into the Opera House we went, and the Top 12 perform their little hearts out, and Dean Geyer once again proves that he has more charisma than the Top 11 combined!! You go Deano!

Then onto the final two's "Journey" ladidadida...nothing we haven't seen before...
Messages of support from Jess' school, her family...her friends...fellow Darwinians...a Crocodile named Jess wishing her well...guy flinging Octopus around yelling "Jessie Jessie Jessie"...wha?
Okay, Darwinians are officially WIERD to the rest of Australia! Thanks-a-lot AUSTRALIAN IDOL! Our reputation has now been put down to Crocodiles named Jess and Octopus flinging! I am NEVER telling anyone I am a former Darwinian AGAIN! >.<

Anyways, with that out of my system, same things go on for Damien, except the Irish are nowhere near as strange as the Darwinians seemed to be...

Both of them sing the "Judges Choice"...Jess with "When You Believe"...again, very breathy, though I did like the chorus part, and then Damien with "Nessum Doma?" "Nessum Dora?"...oh whatever, that Opera song! He was okay...loved his falsetto-less big notes!

And then finally, Top 12 perform AGAIN! Dean in a very casual but cool Denim Jacket...starting off by yelling "One Two Three..." He seemed to have mistimed the start...oh well, his stage presence is overwhelming!! And he looks very "huggable" in his denim! hee.

Finally...they announce the Winner!
And the WINNER of AUSTRALIAN IDOL 2006 IS....
I'm convinced it's Jess! It all fits! She fits the winner Diva type! She was in the middle of the Top 12 poster! She is standing next to Andrew G! She has the whole of crazy Darwin voting for her! She...eh? no? what was that?

eeeeeeeeee...and the WINNER IS "DAMIEN LEITH!!"

Congrats Damien!

Now that's over with...DEAN GEYER FOR ARIA ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2007!!!
