Yes, it is finally a winter that is correct for the season. Snow on the ground and more on the way. I live in the north and love living in the north for the reason that we have four seasons. The last few years I've felt I've been jipped out of a season. Not this year. Anyhoo, the main reason I'm posting is inspiration derived from the original LJ motivator, Bosco Kahn. If not for this fearless man of wit and wonder I would not have begun this journal years ago...he blazed a trail, and for that I am grateful. In other news, students have finally started to kick it into gear and do things, and discover that lo and behold, they too are able to actually find answers, figure things out, and learn stuff...and that even though at times it is hard, it is quite rewarding DUN DUN DUH. I'm off to a "conference" tomorrow, or a workshop or something. I'm not really invested in it, but I didn't have to pay and others seem to think it's going to be swell. I still prefer reading as my means of gaining new insight into ideas and learning philosophies. The upside is I'm getting a day break from school, and it comes at a beautiful time, when everything is going swimmingly, hence I'm in a very positive mood about school. To shift focus abruptly, I have not even begun to think about Christmas shopping. We have no outside decorations up (the timing of the snow sort of killed the motivation) etc. We will be getting a real, cut-your-own, tree this coming saturday. Should be an adventure tying it to the top of Marie's car. Oh well, we have space for it. That's about it. I've been trying to get back into the swing of writing poetry more often, and I've been reading like a MoFo. Mostly I'm reading some young adult books I ordered for my classroom; they are quite well written and are very enjoyable. The selections I recommend adults read as well include: It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzani and King Dork by Frank Portman. Honorable mention to Nick and Nora's infinite play list by David Levithan and...another author. Other books I've read recently that I absolutely loved: Blankets (a graphic novel, and I cant' remember the author and am not going to look it up right now), and Making Love to the Minor Poets of Chicago (also forgot the author, and will not go look it up right now). Eh, that has been life. Reading, work, sleep, weather. Hmm, this post much less jazzy than I had hopes for. FINE.
