Trying to get into the holiday spirit

Dec 02, 2007 19:42

In an attempt to get in the holiday spirit today, I dug out the Christmas tree, decorations, ornaments, etc. and decided to decorate the apartment.  This was after we went to IHOP for brunch, and noticed that after the rain/precipitation on Friday, there is actually SNOW on some of the nearby mountains -- I will have to take pictures of that later in the week.  Not the same as the 6" of snow that Milwaukee got over the weekend, but still.

So, I have achieved setting up the tree and decorating it while listening to the Nutcracker Suite.  I'll be honest -- I alternated between whistling along and crying intermittently -- finding all my old ornaments and missing family kind of got to me.  I think there will be a handful of sit-in-front-of-the-tree-with-a-glass-of-wine nights in the near future, but I should let myself feel the range of emotions and be grateful that I am going to get to go home and see family in only a few short weeks, right?  On a lighter note, I even found the Santa toilet-seat cover that Oma used to have, and have gleefully added that to the main bathroom.  I also enjoyed playing with my short/tall snowman,
mom3mkb -- our receptionist here collects snowmen and so in the next few weeks, I'll have to find her one for the desk :)

After listening to the Nutcracker, I decided that I must certainly go see the ballet this year to help me feel a sense of tradition, spirit, etc.  I told Husband that I'd love him to go with me, but that if he didn't want to go, I could talk to some of my coworkers and see if they'd go with me.  He says that he'd like to go, so now I just purchased our tickets online to the Riverside Ballet's production on December 15th.  (yay!)  I will enjoy looking forward to this -- 2 Date Nights in a row that weekend!

And for the record, today's Advent truffle is Peanut Butter (edit:
whereserin comes in with a Dark Chocolate one).   I'll repost the table weekly, because it won't let me cut & paste the dumb thing.

Now I am going to have some chips & salsa (Christmas salsa!) and watch The Tin Man on SciFi... looks interesting, and Husband says he's sworn off TV (let's see how long this lasts), which means I am spared the Sunday night FOX cartoons.  I'm heartbroken, can you tell!?

yay me!, day to day, advent 2007, missing wisconsin
