Someone needs to explain this to me more rationally

California, you have some crazy rules.  My new puzzler involves buying a 6-pack of beer at the grocery store, as I did the other day.  I said to the cashier, "I'll just carry the milk and the beer", meaning please don't give me more plastic bags (oi, I have enough of these).  The cashier then said, "But I have to bag your beer", to which I asked why?  The explanation she gave me was something along the lines of, if you get pulled over by a policeman and you have the 6 pack of beer in the actual car with you, you can be ticketed for it, as it's a "temptation."  Apparently, bagging the beer is a huge deterrent and will stop people from thinking about drinking a beer while driving, like the old "out of sight, out of mind" adage. Husband & I found this absolutely hilarious and I'd love to hear of any Californians who have more experience with this "rule" because it's absurd.  Or is this just a Ralph's policy?

On another California-related note, it's raining!  It smells wonderful :)  And in an hour, I'm going to watch the World Series.
