Don't even get me started on 'heyna or no.' ;) (I don't have much of a local accent, either, but it comes out with words like 'Scranton'='scran'n' and 'button'='bu'in'.)

I don't know. There's a fine line and I'm not sure what I think. On one hand, my Slovak relatives came here not knowing a word of English and didn't have the privilege of bilingual anything, and they managed. But then, maybe bilingualisim just how our country is headed, and we're destined to become a bilingual nation, like Canada. I'd probably be more inclined to learn Spanish if I lived in the Southwest or something, but I honestly can't see myself using it much. Though I do remember working at Circuit City and a Hispanic family got very frustrated with us (and kind of belligerent) because none of us spoke Spanish and they only spoke broken English. I know what it's like to live in a country where you barely speak the language, and that can be stressful and frustrating, but there's no need to get angry and shout "No Espanol???" over and over.
