Rachel and I were invited to a celebration for a friend's daughter who recently started her menstrual cycle. It's a celebration to honor her passage into womanhood and as kind of a blessingway. I'm trying to think of an apporpriate gift...Something personal and related, but not conveying the idea that she should expect pain and suffering. I thought about a gift basket with female balancing teas and a rice sock, but those would express an expectation of lots of pain and "imbalance." How do I convey trust in the normal process of menstruation, that it's not a curse but a gift, to a 12 year old girl? hmmm. Suggestions welcome.
