I don't know about that. While the "masculine" world holds many wonders, she isn't really motivated to do what it takes to get herself there until she meets a man and falls in love. She goes through the traumatic change for him, and he's not even aware enough of her unique identity to not be fooled by an impostor. She is setting herself up for a loveless marriage, isolated from all that is familiar. Even though it has a sense of adventure, she is not building a life for herself, but for him.
