Characters and Flaws

May 23, 2010 12:42

Following the challenge of annwfyn where she asked people to list:

1) a proper character flaw
2) an example of behaving badly in background/with NPCs
3) an example of behaving badly with PCs
4) a true, but uncharitable description
5) and a redeeming feature

of their characters, I've decided to give it a go with my many characters - one from each venue. At least for now.

Laine (Lost)
1) flaw
He's stubborn, self-righteous, and unwilling to give. The more he's pushed, the more he pushes back. He's also very self-centered in his views. If it's not affecting him, Dunasheen or his mates, he tends not to get involved.

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
Laine's not much of a bad boy... the worst I can think of is when he went to bargain with Isil recently, and not only lied to her face, but lied about having a pledge as the reason why he lied. I'm not going to try and cover it up by saying he didn't *say* he had a pledge, because omission of the actual truth is still a lie.

3) behaving badly with PCs
Snuggles, how he hates you... And Dourif. He has given one of Inverness' Leechfingers full rights to do whatever he likes to Snuggles should he step inside the hotel without express prior permission/invitation.

4) uncharitable description
He's an angry, arrogant, selfish, stubborn, individualistic bastard who hates the Court system and has a severe dislike for most of Lost society.

5) redeeming feature
He's kind-hearted. He will actually put himself out there for newly-escaped Lost; doing what he can to help them get started again. He'll also do practically anything for is mates, and for Dunasheen.

Nathan (Forsaken)
1) flaw
He's a cop. It's not just a job for him, it's a living. If he hears about illegal activities, he will call them in - no matter who did it, or for what reason. He's stubborn, arrogant and self-righteous, though he won't admit that.

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
He's a werewolf - he doesn't behave that nicely any time. He's such a lone cop that he's scared off multiple partners - before he Changed. When he did Change, he ripped three people apart for trying to mug a young woman.

3) behaving badly with PCs
Ripping open Lark's top to make the point that she wasn't prepared, and was dressing improperly for the situation. In the middle of a gathering. He did then get shot.

4) uncharitable description
"Jack-booted stormtrooper of the oppressors" - that's an IC description of him from another werewolf. He's an arrogant cock, and is out to enforce his brand of justice on the werewolves of Edinburgh.

5) redeeming feature
He's a Blood Talon - not in the "rar! let me fight!" way, but in the way that he takes being a protector very seriously. He sees himself as a defender, a protector. He'll jump in the way of the big gribbly monster so that other people can get away.

Henderson (Awakening)
1) flaw
Henderson is a man of ambition. He has a plan, and he wants it to succeed. But he's particular in what he wants to do sometimes, and he gets stresses when things don't happen that way. He has a tendency to retreat into mundane activities instead of paying attention to what's happening in Mage society. He also has a slight obsession with fire.

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
The worst he's done is influencing people into voting when they might have before...

3) behaving badly with PCs
Does Judas count?

4) uncharitable description
Somewhat self-centred, too focused on his own things. Too much of a tendency to go away and play with fire rather than actually helping out.

5) redeeming feature
He wants to make the world a better place - that's what his ambition is. And he's ethical about his magic use. He won't use his Mind magic to invade another's thoughts or make them do something. He'll *influence* people, but never force them to do something.

Charlie Benedict II (Requiem)
1) flaw
He's a depraved, debauched, torturing vampire on the fast track to low-Humanity. Nothing is too bad for him to get involved in. Nothing is too much. There are no limits.

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
Ok, should I start with the diablerie or the torture?

3) behaving badly with PCs
Well... there's Charlie, and Violet, and Hugh, and Rebecca, and Dolly... and if you want details, you can ask for them...

4) uncharitable description
He's a depraved, debauched, torturing vampire on the fast track to low-Humanity.

5) redeeming feature
He might have one? He cares about the House of Wax...

Rocker (Created)
1) flaw
His anger. Easily. He's full of rage, and while he's getting better, he'll lightning people far too easily...

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
He Divine Lightning'd his creator into a burnt pile of body parts then buried the parts in different places across the country.

Oh, and he Divine Lightning'd someone else's creator's corpse to ash while in Torment.

3) behaving badly with PCs
He killed id, has had lightning fights with Imsety, and has frequently lightning'd other people for no real reason.

4) uncharitable description
An angry, loud, Wretched who doesn't understand anything and won't talk to you.

5) redeeming feature
He cares about his Throng - a lot. Especially Brae.

Spook (Mortals)
1) flaw
Bug nuts crazy. No, really.

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
If he remembered his background... maybe. On the other hand, he did stab two people for doing stuff to a young Indian girl.

3) behaving badly with PCs
There was that almost-a-fight between him and Spencer...

4) uncharitable description
A simple, stab-happy loon who should be locked up in an insane asylum and drugged into a stupor, not allowed to roam the streets armed with a motley assortment of knives.

5) redeeming feature
He wuvs you! If you're his friend, that is.

Daniel (Garou)
1) flaw
The ones on his sheet are "Curiosity", "Bard's Tongue" and "Compulsive Speech". He doesn't know when to shut up. Actually.. that's wrong. He does know when to shut up - he just doesn't.

2) behaving badly in background/with NPCs
Not so much of a problem here... except when there were Spirals/Banes involved. Well, there is the whole traumatic angsty relationship between him and his packmate...

3) behaving badly with PCs
He publically insulted the sept alpha, to her face. And one of the temporary den parents. And challenged the alpha of another sept - as a cub. And directly disobeyed the den parents, and the alpha, and an Elder Ragabash (who was also the Eldest Ragabash [he's a Ragabash himself]).

4) uncharitable description
A cocky, smarmy, thinks-he's-all-that, mouthy idiot of a Ragabash.

5) redeeming feature
He won't let anyone say anything wrong about his pack. His pack are family to him (as much as he might want it to be more), and he'll do anything for them - no matter what anyone else says (and no matter who says it). He also cares for the cubs, especially now he's Ranked himself, and looks out for them - making sure they're being treated fairly.
