Cast your dreams away

I think I've made it pretty clear just how much I love P4 by now. I love the dungeon designs (and even the dungeons themselves when I'm not just grinding), I love the characters, and I love the music. Yeah, "Reach Out to the Truth" gets a bit repetitive, but it's a battle theme - that's what it does. There are plenty of songs that I think are fantastic songs in general, not just for a game ("Never More" and "Heartbeat, Heartbreak" for starters). And I think that, as an opening theme, you can do a lot worse than "Pursuing My True Self", which suits the overall theme of the game and sets the mood perfectly.

All that being said, however:

"Burn My Dread" is badass as hell, and I'm rapidly becoming obsessed with it. I'm actually digging a lot of the music from P3 lately, mostly thanks to the Let's Play. Incidentally, this is the first time I've added game music to my library without having played the game in question myself. Which is...interesting, for me. Because I tend to get really into games, and there's something about the experience of playing something that'll give you super-strong associations forever after. A game's music is a huge part of the overall deal for me (to the point where bad music can throw me out of it, but I can still hum FFX's battle theme 6 years after the fact (actually, my mom can too, which is really saying something about the power of the music-game continuum, or whatever)), and so I normally don't care about music from games I haven't played, because it won't mean very much to me.

And that's where the Let's Play comes in, because I actually feel like I've been playing P3 lately, even though I haven't. It's kinda cool - I get all the experience I want with none of the frustration. Plus, awesome new music.

Anyway, I've decided to give myself tonight off, because I've been running pretty much nonstop since school started (minus the LP, of course), and it's a three-day weekend. I've got TV to catch up on, and I really want to start my third (and most awesome!) play-through of P4, so I'm going to focus on being happy for right now. I figure even I deserve that sometimes, right?
