SW3 Empires Toyotomi Story Path Translation

Toyotomi story path, done!

Notes:
1. Based on recordings here. (That link goes to the first of four videos, the next ones are linked in each video's description.)

2. Masanori calls Hideyoshi 'Uncle'. Apparently they were cousins? But I guess Masanori calls Hideyoshi 'uncle' and not 'cousin' due to age and rank differences. It looks helluva weird at first but Keiji calls Toshiie that too, and Toshiie calls Katsuie the same thing, so.

3. Masanori uses 'Gachi de!' a lot. It's slang and it basically means something along the lines of 'Seriously!', 'For sure!', 'Go all out!'. I ignore it most of the times because it just... doesn't translate well.

4. I have the hardest time writing Masanori's lines can you tell?? Please punkify all his lines as you see fit.

Chapter 1: Battle of Mount Tennō

Cutscene:

[The first cutscene is actually the same one from Kanbei's story mode in SW3, so I'll just link to the english version :D It's the cutscene where Kanbei convinces Hideyoshi to march against Mitsuhide after the events at Honnōji.]

Event: Proteges

Tenth Tenshou year (1582), Oda Nobunaga was attacked by his retainer, Akechi Mitsuhide, and died at Honnōji. Hideyoshi carried out what would later be known as 'The Great Chūgoku Reversal' and pursued the Akechi troops at Kyoto with remarkable speed. Among his advance troops were three of his proteges.

Mitsunari: Kiyomasa, you understand, don't you? This battle is very important to Lord Hideyoshi, and to us.
Kiyomasa: Yeah. If we defeat Mitsuhide, the land will acknowledge Lord Hideyoshi as Lord Nobunaga's successor.
Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi's dream of 'a world where everyone can be happy' will soon be a reality... Masanori, you need to fight hard too.
Masanori: Shut up! You don't have to tell me that! That bastard Mitsuhide... doing something as underhanded as turning traitor... I'll tear him down and bring Lord Hideyoshi's dream closer to reality!

The Akechi troops set up formation at Yamazaki to stop Hideyoshi.. The battle that would decide the future of the land would soon begin.

Battle: Yamazaki - Toyotomi vs Akechi

Cutscene (For this one, the translation will make more sense if you watch the cutscene!)

Hideyoshi: So cold...
Hideyoshi: High places are cold after all...
Hideyoshi: So this is what it looks like when you've climbed to a high place...
Hideyoshi: It's so lonely...
Nene: It's not lonely!
Hideyoshi: Nene?

Kiyomasa: Lord Hideyoshi, where are you?!
Masanori: The only place left that we haven't search is the roofs, isn't it?
Mitsunari: Don't group him with the fools that like high places*.
Masanori: What did you say, bighead?

Nene: Look, over there too.
Nene: You won't be alone in a world where everyone can be happy.
Nene: Isn't that right, darling?

[*'Idiots and smoke like high places' is a Japanese proverb]

Event: Sorrowful winds blow amongst high branches

Hideyoshi: However, Nene, this still isn't a world where everyone can be happy. I have to conquer the land as soon as possible.
Hideyoshi: Lord Nobunaga destroyed everything to rebuilt a new world. I will bring everything to life and rebuilt a new world. It will be a world where those who fight with me and those who fight against me can live happily.
Nene: It'll be a world where everyone works together, isn't it? It's an amazing idea and it's just like you. I'll help out too!
Kanbei: Unfortunately... with that naive thinking, it may be wiser for you to let go of that land you are grasping at...
Hideyoshi: Don't say that, Kanbei. I want to do this in my own way. That's why... whether it's Mitsuhide or Lord Shibata that we will be facing soon, if it's possible I want them all to live and build this world together.

Below the roofs, the proteges were squabbling.

Masanori: Hey, I've brought the ladder! Lord Hideyoshi and Lady Nene are definitely on the roof! bighead, hold the ladder!
Mitsunari: We're switching, fool. You're heavy and excitable whereas I am lighter, it'll be more efficient for me to go. ...Kiyomasa, why are you holding that scarf?
Kiyomasa: I was just worried that Lady Nene might catch a cold... I'm climbing up so you guys hold the ladder.
Masanori: (in a high-pitched voice) Thanks, Kiyomasa! Let's stay warm together! (normal voice) What the hell do you think you're gonna do up there on the roof, Kiyomasa?! You're a danger, I'm not letting you go up!
Kiyomasa: Masanori... you, I, of course that's not what I meant...
Mitsunari: Your face shows how agitated you are, fool. Anyway, I'll go...
Masanori: Bighead, I won't forgive you for stealing the chance!

Hideyoshi: Hahaha, Nene, Kanbei, let's go down soon. If we stay so high up for too long, we won't be able to see the things we should see. Let's go down and kick things up with them for a bit more.

Battle: Oumi-Iga - Toyotomi vs Akechi

Event: Akechi's Downfall

Kiyomasa: Lord Hideyoshi, we have wiped out the Akechi army. It seems that Mitsuhide has escaped.
Nene: Oh my... he didn't have to run. Darling was planning to rebuild the country together with everyone...
Hideyoshi: It's fine, he'll be my comrade soon. Mitsuhide is a brilliant man, so I really want that to happen.

Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi, I'm afraid I must object to cooperating with the rebel Mitsuhide.
Hideyoshi: Mitsunari, Mitsuhide is a friend who served Lord Nobunaga with me. We might have parted ways for now, but we share the same roots.
Hideyoshi: I am sure of this after fighting him. We can work together again, definitely.
Masanori: You guys reaffirmed the bond between the two of you through an all-out fight... What a touching story... damn it, I'm gonna cry. Uncle! Let's go on and fight, and conquer the land!

Chapter 2: Battle of Shizugatake

Event: Kiyosu Conference

After Hideyoshi had defeated the Akechi troops, a meeting known as the Kiyosu Conference was held to decide the fate of the Oda clan from then on.
Apart from Hideyoshi, the other attendees included Shibata Katsuie, Niwa Nagahide and Ikeda Tsuneoki. Discussions centred around the partitioning of the Oda territories and Nobunaga's successor.

Katsuie: Lord Nobunaga's third son, Lord Nobutaka, is a fitting successor. Lady Oichi has also given her consent.
Hideyoshi: Whoops, Lord Katsuie! Lord Nobunaga's grandson, Lord Sanbōshi* is a better choice! Isn't that right, Lord Niwa, Lord Ikeda?
Katsuie: Goroza*... you...!
Nagahide: I'm sorry, Gonroku... The authority lies with Lord Hideyoshi since he was the one who defeated Akechi.
Hideyoshi: So we have decided, okay? I will look after Lord Sanbōshi. Everyone, we should work together under Lord Sanbōshi and rebuild the land!

[*ALL THE NAMES. Sanbōshi = Oda Hidenobu. Goroza(emon) = Niwa Nagahide. Gonroku(rō) = Shibata Katsuie.]

After that, through Hideyoshi's intermediation, Katsuie and Oichi were married. Relations between Hideyoshi and Katsuie improved.
However, not long after that, Oda Nobutaka, who lost his position as the Oda successor following the decision made at the Kiyosu Conference, raised an army. He sent an envoy to Katsuie who should have been also aiming to bring down Hideyoshi.

Toshiie: Uncle, what should we do? Should we join Lord Nobutaka and fight against Hideyoshi?
Katsuie: …..................
Oichi: Toshiie, would you be able to fight? He, the monkey, is your closest and dearest friend...
Toshiie: ….............
Katsuie: Toshiie, you should stop following in my footsteps. Choose the path you wish to walk, and walk down that path with your own legs.
Katsuie: I will ally with Lord Nobutaka and fight the monkey.

Battle: Mido-Hida - Toyotomi vs Oda

Event: Befriend to a distant enemy and attack ones nearby*
[*#23 in Sun Tzu's 36 Strategems]

Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi, I have something to report to you. In order to ensure victory in the battle against the Shibata, we should ally with the Uesugi of Echigo.
Hideyoshi: Hmm, you're saying that we should work with the Uesugi to trap Lord Shibata. If all goes well, he might surrender without a fight. But there's a problem, isn't there, Kanbei?
Kanbei: The Uesugi are not on good terms with the Oda. There is a high chance that any negotiations between them and a former Oda retainer will fail, whether it's Katsuie or you, Lord Hideyoshi.
Hideyoshi: Alright, I'll go talk to them!
Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi, are you going there personally?! You can't, it's too dangerous! Even if it costs me my life, I will ensure that an alliance between us is set up!
Hideyoshi: Nope, you can't. Mitsunari, you may be diligent and capable, but you're too inflexible. If you approach them with that scary face, anyone would be on their guard.
Mitsunari: ….................
Hideyoshi: If you want a person to do something, you can't have that. You have to show them your sincerity. If you act all high-and-mighty, the other party's not going to work with you.
Hideyoshi: So I'll go. Kanbei, Mitsunari, I'll leave things here to you two.

Kanbei: I don't know whether to say if he's reckless or ridiculous... Mitsunari, you should go with him. Someone of his power shouldn't travel alone...
Mitsunari: ...I understand! Lord Hideyoshi, please wait!

Mitsunari chased after Hideyoshi.

Event: Meeting at Koshimizu

Hideyoshi formed an alliance with the Uesugi. This was what happened at that time.
After the incident at Honnōji, the head of the Uesugi clan, Kagekatsu, and his retainer, Naoe Kanetsugu, quietly kept an eye on the conflicts raging in the land while fighting the Hōjō themselves. It was at that time that Hideyoshi suddenly paid them a visit.

Kanetsugu: Hideyoshi is accompanied only by his retainer, Ishida Mitsunari, and a few servants. Lord Kagekatsu, what should we do?
Kagekatsu: We will meet...
Kanetsugu: Yes. Hideyoshi whose name is now known throughout the land believes in Lord Kagekatsu's love and honour, and has arrived here without bringing his army... And now Lord Kagekatsu responds in spirit by agreeing to a meeting!
Kagekatsu: Together... to Koshimizu Castle.
Kanetsugu: Of course! I will be honoured to accompany Lord Kagekatsu to meet Hideyoshi. Our place of meeting shall be Koshimizu Castle.

Before long, a meeting took place at Koshimizu Castle. The participants were Hideyoshi, Mitsunari, Kagekatsu and Kanetsugu.

Kanetsugu: How unexpected for someone like you, who rules the land, to cross enemy territory and come unarmed... All of us here are amazed.
Hideyoshi: Don't mention it. If I were attacked mid-journey, that's that. Besides, I've heard that the Uesugi is a clan who places great importance on love and honour. There's no way you would attack us when we're unarmed.
Kagekatsu: Your business...
Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi wishes to have a friendly relationship with the Uesugi clan. In my opinion, it would be to the Uesugi clan's advantage if you respond to us in kind...
Kanetsugu: You are Mitsunari, are you not. You are strangers in our home and yet you talk to us with that arrogant attitude... how refreshing!
Hideyoshi: Now, now... Mitsunari is the type who won't tell lies. In these chaotic times, if you can't be allies then you have no choice but to fight. I wish to avoid the battles that can be avoided.
Hideyoshi: In order to create a world where everyone can be happy, I will reap the greatest benefits from the smallest fights. I guess... you can call it my honour.
Kagekatsu: Honour...
Kanetsugu: Lord Kagekatsu has acknowledged Lord Hideyoshi's honour! We will be honoured to ally with you.
Hideyoshi: Ooh, is that so? As expected of Lord Kagekatsu! I'll be counting on you from now on!
Kanetsugu: Lord Hideyoshi, please do not forget this. As long as you uphold honour, we, too, will uphold honour.
Kanetsugu: However, if you should go against honour, we will aim our arrows at you without hesitation in order to uphold honour!

Hideyoshi: After Kenshin's death, it was those two who held the Uesugi together. Especially Naoe Kanetsugu, it seems like he has even be entrusted with all the administrative matters.
Mitsunari: He gives the impression of being rude and talkative, as well as having the habit of boasting...
Hideyoshi: Well, he sounds like a perfect partner for you, I'm sure you two will get along. Should anything happen to me, I'm counting on you two to support the Toyotomi. I'm being serious here.
Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi...

Event: Traitor

Nene: Mitsuhide, are you still feeling down? Kids who are too serious are troublesome...
Mitsuhide: I killed Lord Nobunaga and became a traitor... Yet I live, and everyday the world reproaches me for my actions. This pains me more than any punishment ever could...
Nene: No matter what the world around you thinks, you have to forge your own path. That's what you thought and that's why you fought Lord Nobunaga, isn't it?
Mitsuhide: However, my presence here can only be a burden to Hideyoshi...
Nene: My husband has only respect for you who can seriously stand up to Lord Nobunaga. That's why he wants to work hard with you. You are no longer a traitor. You're part of our family now.
Mitsuhide: …..........................
Nene: If you regret killing Lord Nobunaga... then you should live for his sake and create a peaceful world, shouldn't you? If you do that, I'm sure Lord Nobunaga would forgive you!
Mitsuhide: I wonder...
Nene: Yeah, so you should help us out from now on!
Mitsuhide: ...Yes. Hideyoshi truly has a wonderful wife.
Nene: Oh my, your compliments make me so happy. Next time, please say that in front of my husband, alright?

Event: The night before Shizugatake

Hideyoshi's began the main part of his attack on the Shibata territory. The Shibata forces also retaliated by fighting, seeking a decisive battle with Hideyoshi's troops.

Katsuie: Thinking about it now, the monkey must be putting pressure on me in the hopes that I will surrender.
Katsuie: However, I am an old-fashioned soldier who only knows how to convey my thoughts by fighting... I am unnecessary in this current age where hope overflows. Already, I can be nothing more than a wall to the monkey.
Oichi: I, too, have accepted my fate. However, for Toshiie... I can see that he is wavering between you and the monkey...
Katsuie: If Toshiie crumbles at this point, he'll never amount to anything more than this. Whether he'll choose to fight with me or to side with the monkey... I believe that he will walk the path he chooses on his own two legs.
Oichi: Katsuie...

Toshiie: I owe a mountain of debt to Uncle... But Hideyoshi is the friend I've been through thick and thin with... What should I do...
Keiji: Uncle, are you still worrying about that? Then, why are you here? For the sake of fighting, you have led your troops out, isn't it?
Toshiie: That is true, but... can I really fight Hideyoshi? Can I look him in the eye and aim my spear at him?
Keiji: Who knows. However, both Katsuie and Hideyoshi have long already prepared to fight. If you don't prepare yourself, you're headed to the Hell King's place.
Keiji: Well then, it's time for the epic battle that will decide which direction the land will take. We can't be left behind! Maeda Keiji, heading out!
Toshiie: ...Wait, Keiji! If it's come to this, I'm doing it!

The battle that will decide on the direction the land takes after Nobunaga's death... the battle of Shizugatake, began.

Battle: Shizugatake - Toyotomi vs Shibata

Event: The Seven Spears of Shizugatake

Masanori: Yeahhhhhh! The most outstanding person in this battle was me! The coolest guy among the proteges, Fukushima Masanori!
Hideyoshi: Fool, that's something for Lord Hideyoshi to decide.
Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi has named the two as part of the Seven Spears of Shizugatake. In order words, there were seven equally outstanding warriors.
Masanori: Ah, is that so, not-one-of-the-seven-Mitsunari? How boring it is for seven people to share the same title... isn't that right, not-one-of-the-seven-Mitsunari?
Mitsunari: Shut up. The Seven Spears title was granted to those who pursued Shibata after he was already defeated. I contributed to the victory in main battle too!
Kiyomasa: Shut up, the both of you. The time from now on is crucial for Lord Hideyoshi's land. Now isn't the time to squabble over such petty matters!
Nene: Hey! The battle's just over and you guys are fighting again... I'm going to teach all three of you a lesson!
Kiyomasa: L-Lady Nene! In fact, I was stopping their fight... I, um... can't you let me off the hook...
Mitsunari: Shut up, Kiyomasa. Like Masanori, you are one of the Seven Spears. You should accept both your achievement and your punishment, isn't that right? Well then, please excuse me...
Masanori: Wait, bighead! Don't just casually walk away!

Chapter 3: The net around Hideyoshi

Event: The net around Hideyoshi

Hideyoshi, who had defeated both Akechi and Shibata, became the strongest power in the land. But there was someone who wouldn't abide Hideyoshi's power, Oda Nobunaga's second son, Nobukatsu.
Nobukatsu approached the second most powerful man in the land, Tokugawa Ieyasu. He visited Ieyasu's home castle, Hamamatsu Castle.

Nobukatsu: So like I said, Ieyasu, charge! Charge!
Ieyasu: Hideyoshi is someone whom I have been through thick and thin with under Lord Nobunaga... However, for the sake of your goal, there are some enemies that are unavoidable...
Ieyasu: I will support you, Lord Nobukatsu, and fight against Hideyoshi.
Nobukatsu: Is, that so!

[Yes, Nobukatsu tries to imitate Nobunaga's speech patterns and fails spectacularly. One day I will compile audio clips of SW3E's generics because some of them are pretty fab.]

News of Oda Nobukatsu and Tokugawa Ieyasu's alliance quickly reached Hideyoshi's ears.

Kiyomasa: Nobukatsu has raised troops together with Ieyasu. It looks like there are some daimyō siding with them too...
Hideyoshi: Kiyomasa, this is the tough part. If we can overcome this difficulty, we can build a world where everyone can be happy!
Kiyomasa: So, we'll be deciding who's the winner and who's the loser between us and Ieyasu?
Hideyoshi: Nope, the one we have to defeat is Nobukatsu. If we defeat Nobukatsu, Ieyasu will lose the purported reason for his fight. He'll naturally order his troops to retreat.
Kiyomasa: If we don't kill Ieyasu now, he might become a danger in the future...
Hideyoshi: If we directly challenge the second strongest man in the land to a fight, it will be a long war. In that case, the world where everyone can live happily will remain far off. However, if we can be friends, the land can begin healing that much quicker.
Hideyoshi: Furthermore, we are nurturing strong alliance as a precaution in case Ieyasu does turn out to be a troublemaker, aren't we, Kiyomasa?
Kiyomasa: Yes... It has been bothering me...
Hideyoshi: Well, there will be a day when you understand this. Alright, so we'll start by going destroying Nobukatsu. Relay that order to everyone.

Event: Each and everyone's considerations

Upon entering Hideyoshi's protection, Oichi kept to herself in her own room. With that hard-to-approach atmosphere, no one came to visit her either.
One day, Oichi sat with a blade in front of her when Nene rushed into the room, carrying a letter.

Nene: Ah, Lady Oichi! Have you seen my husband?
Oichi: No... What's the matter, you seem anxious...

Nene showed the letter to Oichi.

Nene: My husband was so concentrated when writing this letter so I took a peek from behind. And it turned out to be this... And then he ran away at top speed...

The letter was addressed to Oichi. In the letter, Hideyoshi asked in great detail whether she was facing any difficulties settling in and expressing his desire to support her, as well as other things.

Oichi: He has already sent me countless of letters like this...

Oichi showed Nene a bundle of letters.

Nene: He sent this many?! And he kept it all a secret from me!
Oichi: I guess this is how the monkey shows his concern. He hesitates to talk to me directly, so he's expressing his worries through these letters.
Nene: If that's the case, he can just be frank about them with me! He ran away because he has a guilty conscience!
Nene: Lady Oichi, if my husband tries to get close to you, please tell me right away! I'll give him a good talking to!

After that, Nene briskly went on a search for Hideyoshi. The blade which was right before Oichi had disappeared without her realising it.

Oichi: This is how Nene shows her concern... Thank you, monkey, Nene. I feel that I can move forward together with you now.

Event: The general left behind by the times

Nene invited Katsuie, who had became Hideyoshi's general, to her room where she had prepared a feast for him.

Nene: Please help yourself, Katsuie. You will have to expend a lot of energy and work hard with my husband!

Katsuie, who was eating quietly, laid down his chopsticks.

Katsuie: I have grown old... Can this hard-headed demon still be of use in this new era?
Nene: That's right, you are hard-headed. Who said that you can't learn new things just because you're old?
Nene: There are people who still eat with great gusto even though they're old, and people who can still learn new things even though they're old. It'll be fine! I'm sure you can still learn new things!
Katsuie: ...Maybe I should learn from the monkey and give the new era a try.

Upon saying that, Katsuie held out his empty bowl.

Nene: You want a second helping, don't you? I'm glad, Katsuie!

Event: At Komaki

Nobukatsu, who feared Hideyoshi's influence, set off with Ieyasu. They recaptured Komaki Castle which had been captured by Hideyoshi's forces, built earthen walls for defense and engaged Hideyoshi's large army in battle.

Ieyasu: Lord Nobukatsu, do not worry. We have the advantage of the land. We will definitely make Hideyoshi retreat.
Nobukatsu: Is that so!

On the other side, Hideyoshi wanted to avoid a long battle and switched Mori Nagayoshi and Ikeda Tsuneoki over to a detached force. He had them aim for Ieyasu's territory. However, Ieyasu got to know of his plans.

Masanori: Uncle! This is bad! The detached force is in a super terrible worst of the worst pinch!
Hideyoshi: Masanori... I can't understand that at all. It's good to be energetic but you should be a little calmer...
Hideyoshi: Never mind. They must have foreseen our detached force's actions. Our detached force must be facing Ieyasu now.
Masanori: Basically, that's exactly it!
Hideyoshi: Alright, this is way better than having our troops stuck here. All troops, ready to depart! We will save the detached force and go after Ieyasu!

Battle: Komaki-Nagakute - Toyotomi vs Tokugawa
[...Motochika appears in this battle??]

Event: Ieyasu becomes a Toyotomi vassal

Hideyoshi defeated Tokugawa Ieyasu. However, Ieyasu's power remained second only to Hideyoshi's.
Without Ieyasu serving him, the land will never be properly united. Thinking of an idea, Hideyoshi ordered Ieyasu to go to the capital.
A few months later, Ieyasu went. Between the rows of Hideyoshi's generals, he swore to serve as Hideyoshi's retainer.

Hideyoshi: Your journey to the capital is truly a priceless one!
Ieyasu: Yes.

Masanori: Ah, this feels great! That damned tanuki had to bend over and kneel on the ground before Uncle!
Kiyomasa: The second most powerful man in the land bows before Lord Hideyoshi... The other daimyō will probably also pledge allegiance to Hideyoshi in this case. Finally, the land is united under Lord Hideyoshi.
Mitsunari: Hm. But seeing that Ieyasu meekly bow down... I have a feeling he's planning something.
Masanori: What the hell, bighead?! It's a great day so don't go and be a buzzkill! At times like this, you should laugh! Come on, laugh!
Mitsunari: Grngh, stop it, Masanori! Get your hands away from my mouth! That's dirty! Kiyomasa, stop laughing and come help me!

Nene: Ieyasu, that was great! Even before you were asked to, you came here to pay your respects!
Hideyoshi: Lord Ieyasu, I owe you one! Now, the land is complete! The world where everyone can be happy is now here!

Upon saying that, Hideyoshi bowed deeply.

Ieyasu: Please don't, Lord Hideyoshi. To have you bow to me so many times... Please raise your head.

Hideyoshi had actually secretly went to Mikawa, Ieyasu's home territory, to ask Ieyasu to come to the capital.

Ieyasu: Ears of rice bow deeply as they ripen... Even though you have achieved such a high status, you are always thinking of the ones below you. I am sure the world you build will be a great one.
Ieyasu: I, Ieyasu, will spare no expense to assist you.
Hideyoshi: Is that true?! I'm so happy! If Lord Ieyasu says that he will assist me, I will bow my head as many times as needed!
Nene: Talking about that, you really bow your head a lot, darling! Especially... when you've been caught cheating!
Hideyoshi: That... haha, is that true? Nene... are you sure... we should be talking about that now?
Ieyasu: Hahahaha, there's no stopping Lady Nene.

Chapter 4: Towards absolute rule

Event: Suppressing Tōhoku

With Ieyasu bowing before Hideyoshi, Hideyoshi's land appeared to be complete. However, there were still daimyō who had yet to obey Hideyoshi's orders to pay their respects at the capital. They were Kantō's Hōjō, and Ōshū's Date.

Kanbei: Hōjō and Date have both repeatedly ignore orders to come to the capital... Furthermore, they appear to have allied with each other and are preparing for war. Lord Hideyoshi, please make your decision.
Hideyoshi: Kanbei, I want to wait a bit longer. If we move to suppress Kantō, both the soldiers and the commoners will be impoverished. I want to avoid the battles that can be avoided.
Kanbei: Bidding for time can only be advantageous to the Hōjō and Date. The longer you take, the more they can strengthen their defenses. When the time to fight comes, even the avoidable sacrifices will have to be made.
Hideyoshi: …..............
Kanbei: We should extinguish the sparks before they become a flame. Now, make your decision...
Hideyoshi: I get it. You have a point. In that case, we should clean this up as soon as possible and unite the land. Please lend me your intellect, Kanbei.
Kanbei: Naturally. That is why I am your strategist.

Event: Nene and Matsu

One day, Toshiie was training with his spear outside his house.

Nene: You're in top form, Toshiie! Is Omat-chan around?
Toshiie: Hm? Oh, it's you, Nene! Matsu has gone out for a while. What's up?
Nene: I see. Then, please pass these vegetables to her. They're fresh and delicious.

Having said that, Nene put a basket down on the entranceway.

Nene: It's great, isn't it, Toshiie? You get to fight alongside my husband again.
Toshiie: Yeah, it reminds me of the time when we were neighbours. Hideyoshi has made something of himself...
Nene: My husband hasn't changed at all. Toshiie, you haven't changed either. Omat-chan and I are still good friends too...
Nene: What has changed is what makes the country and defines our moral codes. And everyone keeps fighting... Really, there's no helping you boys...
Toshiie: Haha, it's something the wives can't understand.

Nene quickly took out a potato from the basket and threw it at Toshiie.

Nene: Geez, I won't forgive you this time if you make Omat-chan cry! You should always, always be good friends with my husband, okay?
Toshiie: Got it.

Event: You're amazing, darling!

One night, Hideyoshi was stealthily creeping along the corridors of his castle while clutching a bouquet of flowers when Nene suddenly appeared.

Hideyoshi: Ahh! Nene! What's the matter?
Nene: Darling! I was looking for you! Come on here!

Having said that, Nene pulled Hideyoshi into his room.

Hideyoshi: Whoa, there's so much food in my room! Is it my birthday today?

Hideyoshi sat down on the seat of honour, dumbfounded. Nene happily handed him a plate with a whole fish.

Nene: Darling! This is your reward for keeping your promise!
Hideyoshi: My... promise?
Nene: Katsuie, Lady Oichi, Mitsuhide, Toshiie... You allowed them all to live and moved forward together with them. You said before that that's the world you want to build, didn't you?
Hideyoshi: Oh, so that's what this is all about! Yeah, with everyone's help, the world where everyone can be happy is now close to being realised.

Having said that, Hideyoshi presented the bouquet he was hiding behind his back.

Hideyoshi: Nene, you've been working hard in the shadows too. It is thanks to you that everyone has submitted and is working for me. This is my gratitude to you.

Nene hugged Hideyoshi.

Nene: D-Darling... You were watching me... I'm so happy!
Hideyoshi: You are my beloved wife. Of course I know how hard my wife works!
Nene: I'm so glad we worked so hard, darling. Hmm, it looks like you're sitting on a piece of paper. Shall I take it away?

Nene, who was resting her head on Hideyoshi's shoulders, noticed the paper Hideyoshi was sitting on.

Hideyoshi: Ah no, it's... Nene, the food's going to get cold. Let's have a leisurely dinner together tonight.

Nene moved away from Hideyoshi reluctantly. Then, a wide smile appeared on her face.

Nene: Alright! Wait a minute, I have something special for you.

In the split second when Nene looked away from Hideyoshi, Hideyoshi removed the paper he was sitting on which had 'To Lady Oichi' written on it, stuffed it into his mouth and chewed it.

Nene: Ah! Don't start snacking already, darling!

Battle: Odawara - Toyotomi vs Hōjō

Event: Ruler

Hideyoshi who had defeated the Date and the Hōjō, at last became the ruler of the country. Many samurai came to pay their respects at Jurakudai which he had built in the capital.

Kanbei: Congratulations are due on your success in bringing peace to the land. With this, there is no more need for my services as your strategist. I shall retire and rejoice in this land free from sparks...
Mitsunari: Lord Hideyoshi, please accept my utmost congratulations. In order that this peaceful world that Lord Hideyoshi has built may remain for years and decades... we will not cease our diligence!
Masanori: We rushed right ahead, headlong and reckless, and we got the land! Uncle! You were so cool! I'll continue to follow you from now on!
Kiyomasa: This country is like a huge family that Lord Hideyoshi has built... and it is a warm family where the laughter never stops. I will protect it, now and forever!
Nene: Darling, this is the world where everyone can be happy. The warmth and fuzziness fills both my heart and body, it feels so good... Darling, can I hold your closer?
Hideyoshi: Hey, Nene, everyone's looking. Oh? Kiyomasa, what's wrong? Your face is all red!
Nene: Kiyomasa! Did you catch a cold? Come here, we'll keep you warm!
Kiyomasa: N-No, I'm fine! D-Don't... L-Lady Nene!
Nene: Ki-Kiyomasa?! This is bad! There are bubbles coming out of his mouth and he's fainted!
Mitsunari: All red and blowing bubbles... just like a crab.
Masanori: A crab? You bighead... you're absolutely right! Crabby Kiyomasa! A boiled crabby Kiyomasa!
Nene: Hey, the two of you, stop laughing! Quick, help Kiyomasa!
Hideyoshi: Hahahahaha. It's a little noisy but everyone's laughing. This is the world where everyone can be happy!

Cutscene

Hideyoshi: Whoa! This is a game of human chess with all the daimyō gathered! How splendid!
Nene: The kings are Ieyasu and Kiyomasa.
Nene: Kiyomasa! Good luck, Kiyomasa!
Hideyoshi: Kiyomasa's falling to pieces.
Hideyoshi: The view from the top is great. I can see everyone's smiles clearly.
Masamune: Checkmate! This land on the chessboard is mine!
Hideyoshi: The land, huh?
Nene: D-Darling?!
Hideyoshi: Let's have a fight to see who'll create a more interesting world!

-THE END-

Actually, I don't get why Oichi was trying to kill herself after Shizugatake? Initially I thought it was because Katsuie had died in the battle, but he lived and became Hideyoshi's retainer. And the way Oichi and Katsuie appeared in separate events (plus the narration before Oichi's event which mentions how isolated she is) implies that they aren't together anymore but there... really isn't any reason why they had to separate, I feel. It's possible that Hideyoshi ordered it but 1) he was the one who brought them together in the first place and 2) I don't think Nene would have allowed it :'D. I guess the other possible reason is that Katsuie felt that he was no longer worthy of Oichi? Not sure if there was anything in the battle chatter to explain it... or maybe I'm just reading too much into this.
