So, opening weekend of one more RenFaire. This is year 35 for me - eek!. I took almost a whole week off to prep and sew. First thing I did was winnow out the costume closet - throw some out, send some to thrift, and stow some that I might get back (in)to in a trunk. Then nothing. For a week. Not until Friday afternoon, when I cut, sewed and grommeted a new bodice out of my acanthus fabric lined with a stripe, and cut four quarters for the underbrim of a wired hat. Sat morning set the shoulder seams and tacked the brim onto an existing hat. (Gold lace top, acanthus bodice, green underskirt, red overskirt - and much ado was made about my green army belt!)
Took forever to put on various pieces to finalize the outfit and accessories. Made good time getting there, but as I exited onto Irwindale and thought about the $10 parking I realized I had not taken out any cash or my debit card - just my ID and credit card. Yippee for OnStar upgrade - I have the concierge service and they looked up the closest Chase bank and loaded the directions into the car!
So I'm in the bank in full garb and making small talk about being late. The girl asks 'for what'. I am only 2 miles from the Faire site, in full dress, and she has no clue. Judging from other reactions, nobody had a clue, and it's right in their backyard. ~sigh~
Get into Faire maybe 2:00ish. Am approached almost immediately by Mosaic Lady, who remembers my name so I feel like a dork. Then Melinda at my mug booth. She recalls where I work and that i was so worried last year. Was I always this forgetful? Bought a green mug and a yellow mug.
I was going to photo my food as part of my ongoing slow-carb-diet, and did not have my camera. Now I know I set my phone and camera with my Faire stuff. How could I have forgotten them? Where did I set them that I missed it? grrr
Scott was very sweet and asked if I would need any tix since he saw my Facebook post that I was not buying a season pass this year. Explained with a service fee per ticket on indy tix I went ahead and got the pass, but what a nice gesture from him. Xina is a Duchess, 2nd highest ranking woman in court, making Sebastian an Earl(?) and way up there too.
The weather alternated between windy and cold, and quite warm and sunny. After getting there so late I was not about to leave early (also, getting such a late start drinking meant a late sobering up) but the end of the day was a cold misery.
Once I get home I start looking for the camera and phone. Can't find them. Anywhere. I get to the point that I start rooting through me electronics until I find my regular phone with the Magic Jack, plug it in, and call my cell phone. It's ringing from in the pile of Faire stuff. In the basket I had with me all day? No... there in the gold pouch. The gold pouch I had hanging from my belt. All. Day.
Decided that even though my food was slow carb, the mead all day put me off the protocol, so I made it my free day at night (just starting everything late all day). LOTS of vanilla ice cream drizzled with honey. Half a loaf of Hawaiian bread. Doritos. But trying to eat all of those really really fast before bed was not very enjoyable.
