7.29: What's up?

Jul 29, 2009 10:47

Midweek. Lukewarm coffee and a bunch of Subhumans promos to listen to. Sort of a lull in workflow. Figured I’d take advantage.

I’ve been neglectful of detailing my days and nights, my observations and thoughts. Writing time is spent on record reviews for the most part, as I’ve been developing somewhat of a following, or at least I’ve attracted enough attention that PR types just send me shit. I’ve hit the mother load recently: the aforementioned Subhumans promos, all reissued and remastered for the un-punk year of 2009, will be subject to my scrutiny over the next week. And, the grand poobah of promo packages, the soon to be released Beatles stereo box set will be in my possession, and will also require many sleepless nights getting my most ambitious articles written, posted and marked off my “to do” list.

As for life outside the Almost Famous realm, my department has become a skeleton crew, minus the skeleton, and workloads have increased. Recession-wise, we’re still short as far as profits are concerned and penalties have ranged from freezes on raises and layoffs, not to mention withholding 401(k) matches for two quarters. The consolation is that I’m positioned securely, my company putting more emphasis on this department and how it can be used to save money on production and graphic services. It’s three people for about 15 accounts, and one of them is on vacation. So, lately, it’s been daunting and I spend most of my time working. But, at least I’m working.

Jenniah’s been on the job hunt for months now, and her unemployment is about to run out. She is waiting on a verdict from a job interview she had a couple weeks ago whose outlook was very promising. Hopefully, it still is. She was supposed to hear back yesterday, but no dice. Maybe today. In the meantime, she’s preparing herself for returning to workforce after being at home for almost 17 months. It won’t be an easy transition, nor will the idea of leaving Bella in a daycare.

As far as Bella goes, I don’t know where the time went or how she suddenly got so big. She’s learning something new everyday it seems, showing levels of understanding that impress me to no end. Verbally, she doesn’t have that many words yet, but she’s figured out what “boobies” are, where they are, and how to pronounce them. She’s definitely my daughter.

I’ve been sore for a couple days. I tore through the yard Sunday, injuring myself while pulling some overgrown weeds out of one of our flowerbeds. Got a nice scrape on my elbow that the baby’s fascinated with. She smiles at it, pokes it and manages some variation on “boo boo.” In the meantime, because she’s popping teeth, Bella’s sleeping has been sporadic at best. Consequently, Jenniah and I haven’t been really getting a full night, though last night Bella was pretty good. I’ve been oversleeping and getting into work later than usual. I haven’t really cared, though. The work gets done and I’m usually late getting out anyway.

Not much else to say. Things are good, though I wish they were a little more manageable. But, I guess I can’t complain. I’m working. A lot of people aren’t.

life in general, music writing, work woes, bella
