After lunch, there was a voicemail on my office phone from a woman who had worked on the SkillsUSA event. She saw my video and claimed to be impressed. She'd like to talk about freelancing. In my experience, freelancing is kind of like building a human-sized hamster wheel, climbing inside, and then walking. Walking nowhere. Walking in circles. Walking while someone tells you, "This is good, but can we make it pop?" (For those who have not experienced this, "make it pop" means slapping on a bunch of tacky graphics their nephew made in his highschool design class. I am not kidding.)
I swore off freelancing forever.
But after investigating this individual, I decided she was worth a return call. She seems like a real professional and entrepreneur. And hey, anyone who can empathize with working the SkillsUSA conference is good people in my book.
