For those who don't know, my birthday is very, very close to Christmas, and my father has made it a yearly tradition to bake the cake. So, for those who are hungry/craving sugar, I dangle tantalizing photographic evidence of dad's best pastry to date: Lane cake.
There's, uh, also a cat, but focus on the cake. The cake.
I beeeegged the parental units to buy The A-Team for my b-day. I injected the December 14th DVD release date into daily conversation. It was the only thing I wanted (besides a Kindle), and dad ended up buying it a couple days early while we were grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. We watched it together when we got home, and it was just as awesome as I remember. The hospital scene... so priceless. :>
Grammie's gift. She's a practicing Catholic, and dad thought this would be nice.
Grandpa's gift. He's a practicing snacker, and I thought these would be delicious. :D
That's as far as our holidays went. I wish we did exchange presents, but I guess a combination of money issues and time issues makes shopping impossible. But! Fear not! This Christmas vacation wasn't wasted! I present to you...
My first sewing project! I'd been whining about wanting to learn to sew, so Mom bought me a Singer 404 for $10.00 a couple months back. I figured a quilt would be a good place to start (the fam was like, "Um, no, quilts aren't generally for beginners," but I was feeling rebellious that day). I found a
great post to get me started, and away I went! There were no extra pennies for fabric, so I cut up old clothes that were too small, and a random curtain. Mom let me borrow her rotary cutter and self-healing mat.
This is just the quilt top; I still have to find some backing fabric and sandwich it all together, but I'm still pretty darn happy with it.
LONG LIVE ARTISTIC PURSUITS!
