Epic post is epic.

First of all, I would like to say that not posting for two months is inexcusable. I plan on remedying that by forthwith posting... everything. If I make pancakes for breakfast, you will know about it. If I cut myself shaving, you will know about it. If I can't decide whether to bake cake or cookies, you will know about it. (Aren't you excited? Is this not the most fantastic news you've heard all week?)

So! There's only one thing to do after a long time away, and that's a bullet list:

  • My classes were officially over Wednesday night!
  • I sold three things at the craft show!
  • Our family has bought the first Christmas tree in five years!

Yes, you read correctly: classes are over. I feel good about History of Motion Picture 1 (the last two films we watched were Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon, which were awesome; Citizen Kane, not so much, despite the beautiful shots) and Digital Film Making, which I don't even want to talk about. (The TA for that class was kind of a jerk. He told my brother that my second film was shit-and it was-but I just wouldn't say that kind of stuff about students, even if you are off the clock. It seems like bad taste.) Plus, the edit bays went down once or twice, and only one of them was capable of burning a completed project. By the semester's end, the entire class was like, "JUST TAKE MY DAMN PROJECT."

***The cuts are very image-heavy, so if you're working with a low-speed interwebs connection, then abandon hope, ye who enter here.*** I think I'll do okay in 3D design, too. These are

Soft sculpture, based on my love for baking. The "pear" is wire wrapped in a tortilla shell and spray-painted green! (That was mom's idea, BTW, and it flew in class.) My theme was to use soft materials found in the kitchen.

Found-object project (my favorite)! It's modeled after a circuit board, using dominoes covered in metal-repair tape, Scrabble tiles, wire, and busted light bulbs. It's supposed to represent use of natural resources versus the Earth's current population. (Sadly, the flash whites out the top domino, which is the population number.)

The paper project, which had to be completed over Thanksgiving weekend. (I pulled this one out of thin air. Can you tell?) I wanted to do an origami crane, 1,000 of which will gain you a single wish. Sadly, cranes were too difficult, so I Googled 'origami for kids' and found this bird pattern instead.

This project was free-choice, save for the fact it had to be based on a song. I chose Damien Rice's Older Chests. I actually liked how this one came out, and want to re-work it so that it's stronger and more detailed.

BTW, I baked cookies for most of our critiques. I loved having a focus group to test new cookie recipes!

I participated in my second craft show last weekend, and bombed completely. I loved making the stuff, but no one was interested in buying. (The booth next to use sold Old Navy flipflops with college football ribbons attached, and people went crazy over them. Really? Have you never seen flipflops before? And why does everyone love football? I'm a southerner and still don't understand it.)

Anyway, this is an example of my newer pieces:

The fair was all day Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 3:00. I had a big 50% off sale on Sunday, but still no takers. (Two ornaments and one plaque sold, so now I'm giving everything away to anyone who will take it! I gave stuff to Ms. D, the two gals who sell concert tickets at school, the woman who cleans the music auditorium...) Dad stayed with me the whole time and bought me lunch and coffee, when it felt like I was going to fall asleep. There are more

I thought some ornaments might sell (at least, more than two), but no such luck. But now some of these are hanging on our own tree. (The left one actually sold, though. Small mercies.)

None of these sold, but they were my favorite. I actually saved one for me and wear it around.

Vendors could come in on Friday afternoon and set up their booths. That's always my favorite part!

And, thrillingly enough, our family has purchased the first Christmas tree in five years. I begged and whined and complained until they finally said OKAY, JEEZUS, and mom and I went to Lowe's Friday night to pick one out. (And then we called Dad, because transport became an issue.) Dad got the decorations down from the attic and I spent today decorating it.

Grammie bought me a Holiday Barbie ornament every year when I was growing up. I still love them! :D

Eclectic collections are so much fun! The snowflake is one of the ornaments that didn't sell, so I re-purposed it for personal use.

Mom kept a lot of our grade-school crafts. This was just a precursor to my future love of crafting!

    And last, but not least:

    I has it.

Mom and I were at Wal-Mart when I spotted it on the stands. Maybe I was a little overly-enthusiastic in the check-out line. Maybe I embarrassed her by saying something along the lines of, "HOLY CRAP, IT'S FINALLY HERE." But you know what? SPN fans earned this hard-won cover 'cause we're awesome, and that's all there is to it.

DANCE IN THE MAGAZINE AISLE. THERE IS NO SHAME IN IT. (GOD KNOWS IF SGA HAD BEEN ON THE COVER THEN I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ON THE INTERCOM AND ANNOUNCED IT TO THE ENTIRE STORE.)
