I've just come in from helping my mother at work. She's a hostess for weekend breakfasts at a local hotel, meaning she cooks your food, sets up the buffet, and hears the question, "What are grits?" about twenty times a day. I think the morning's high point was when a group came down and wanted waffles, despite seeing, with their own eyes, that we were cleaning up.

She can't even eat in front of guests. And why should she? I mean, she's just a human being. She doesn't need a table. Eating while standing up in a hot kitchen is totally acceptable, right?
