The Xavier Institute of Gotham

The Xavier Institute of Gotham is a new day and boarding school for students of all ages, races, and sentient species. In the spirit of its predecessors, the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning and the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, the Xavier Institute of Gotham teaches peaceful coexistence between humans, metahumans, magical humans, and other sentient species is not only possible but necessary. Staffed by linguistic, biological, medical, and cultural specialists as well as some of Gotham's most powerful metahumans, the school offers a safe refuge where students can learn and grow without fear of persecution.

In addition to Gotham City School mandated subject matter and survival skills, students will be supported by mentors who can assist them in the training to use their individual or species-specific abilities for the betterment of all. The school will offer weekend courses in survival skills - hunting, fishing, tracking, camping and the like, English as a Foreign Language, as well as offering occasional seminars and public lectures.

In the current climate of Gotham, being different can be deadly. It's the mission of the Xavier Institute to teach tolerance and understanding and protect all of the people of Gotham.

A few words from Headmistress Dani Moonstar:

My teacher, Charles Xavier, taught us that with power comes responsibility. He taught us that people would fear us because we were different, even when we looked the same, and that it was our responsibility to show them they had nothing to fear. My grandfather, Black Eagle, taught me that even the longest winters give way to spring.

I share their philosophies.

At the Xavier Institute of Gotham, we recognize that it is still winter. That racial prejudice is still rampant, that women may still hit the glass ceiling, that people are still persecuted for sexuality, ability, religion, and that in the face of our failure to eradicate those prejudices, hatred against aliens, mutants, magic-users, metahumans, supernatural beings seems implacable.

But we know that spring is coming, and that it will be hastened by showing Gothamites that there is nothing to fear. We'll honor our teachers, all of them, and use our power responsibly.
