End of an Era

Randy,

I have the summaries and invoice for the first half of the month.

I have made up missed session with Corrine by doing 2 hour sessions. I also had the last session with Katie Brown today. This Thursday, the 20th is Katie's final and we would have nothing to cover during that time.

Both are doing well and I have high expectations for their finals. I hope that in our time, above any fact or trick they learned about math, both Corrine and Katie have learned a little bit of self-confidence and the foundations for problem solving. It would bring me great joy to hear that Katie and Corrine both have the courage to tackle difficult problems despite the lack of foreseeing a clear answer or method; and I hope that attitude persists not just in math, but in life too.

Corrine's parents had mentioned extending the time into June. I regret to inform you and them that I will not continue. I have really enjoyed my time with these girls and this experience has solidly enforced my passion for teaching. However, with a committed full-time job at Dow and a time-consuming second job; I don't feel it is fair to myself or the students to further distend my much needed personal time. I hope that I'll be able to teach or tutor later on though, as it gives me a real sense of pride and meaning.

Best of luck! I'll finish up the sessions with Corrine tomorrow and next week.
