LOCI Season 8 - 5 Faithfully - A review

I don't have a lot to say about the actual case in this episode, except it was a little more pedestrian than I would like and there were no sudden realisations, or twists.

I can't help feeling Molly the niece will have a bigger role to play. The name on the envelope was Fry, but are we to suppose this branch of the family are Bradys? (I won't make a joke about the Brady Bunch as it would be beneath me.)

I can only assume they applied her with a trowel to the plot for some purpose unless they wanted to stop him floundering about without an anchor, as if the writers regret wiping out his family in the last 2 seasons and thought "Shit, we've painted ourselves into a corner here and VDO won't let is give Goren a love interest. What the fuck are we going to do now?"

Either that or they are building up for some disaster to befall his new family not unlike Jean Luc Picard in 'Generations'. Only instead of them all going up in flames poor little orphan Molly will have to live with Uncle Robert.

My take on his character is that he's a serial caregiver, by that I mean his relationship with his mother was reversed from an early age and he took responsibility for her and Frank who seemed as if he would have trouble opening a tin of beans that was already open. I felt his rescue attempt and rather pathetic hunt for Donny (lozziecap described him perfectly as a 'lost fart'!) displayed his need to be needed as much as his desire to help his wayward Nephew and let's face it, the kid's on the run from the law and Bobby's a copper. It's wasn't going to end well even if he did find him.

There were only a few flashes of the Goren we know and love which was a dissapointment. He seemed knackered and heavy, heavy of heart as well as carrying around the much commented on extra poundage despite both Eames and Ross telling him he looked rested and well - What the fuck did he look like before his holiday? But then, they aren't going to say "Welcome back, you look like shit." are they?

I've only read synopsis of some of the later episodes of Season 7 and early 8 so forgive me if I'm wide of the mark, and I reserve the right to redress this imbalance when I've caught up.
