Even though the air is blue from a grass fire north of the city, I decided to walk home, and was approached by a young man wearing a black teeshirt with cut-sleeves, an aluminum-framed red hiking backpack, and a small Tim Horton's cup dangling from a string attached to the end of a stick. "Spare any change for the fish?" he asked, gesturing to the cup.
I shrugged, amused enough to dig out my purse. "Sure, but I don't think I have any..."
The young man sighed, but he kept smiling. "That's okay. My friends and I were hoping to go out for a big Indian dinner tonight, so it's no big deal. I made the fish because I thought it might help."
This was when I felt around inside my change purse and came up with... "Fourteen cents!" crowed I. "And the dime's American!!"
Enjoy your Indian meal on me, my friend. <3
