A little after Christmas I got a card in the mail from a friend I used to work with, whom I hadn't seen for 5 years. We hadn't called or exchanged letters or emails, or visited or sent Christmas cards before. There were cats on the card, and it came in a red envelope, and said simply, 'Dear Yvonne, I've been thinking about you lately and wondering what you're up to.' Or something like that.
It was so neat to know that I'd made a 5 year impression on someone. Granted, my thoughts sometimes strayed to her too, and I wondered what she was up to. Last I'd heard she was living in Golden, BC, with her boyfriend and going to school to be a guide. We'd met working at the Silversmith - I was a scruffy little thing and she was impossibly chic, slick, and glamorous. And earthy, and fun, and she had a great big smile.
She gave me her email address. I wrote her a letter and sent it in the mail. And got one back. It's an amazing feeling to be able to reconnect.
Anyways, I guess I have two things to say. One, think about someone that you haven't thought of for a while. Drop them a line. If it gets through, I bet they'd be happy to hear from you.
Two, the woman is
an amazing photographer. An amature photographer, but she's got talent. I'm thinking that I might buy a print or two off her to put up on my bare, beige walls. They need something other than writing paper in shoddy frames from IKEA.
