The dog days are over.... [Ygraine and Ewain]
Ygraine and Melehan eventually had to return to Camelot to face her family, just as they had gone to the Druids to face his. Ygraine was dreading it, because she knew that some uncomfortable conversations were waiting for her. When the two of them left, she did her best to arrive in the middle of the day, so that she wouldn’t have to go directly to her parents. She needed some time to prepare, first.
Time to prepare, and time to see her cousin, Ewain, who she knew had to be hurt by her not including him in her plans. Facing him would be just as hard as facing her father (and Mother, and her brothers)…but it was something she had to do, whether she liked it or not.
After Ygraine and Melehan arrived at the palace, and went their separate ways, Ygraine’s first stop was the kitchens, to collect some cookies. She was hoping that they would make a good peace offering to her younger cousin, as a way to make their conversation easier. And even if they didn’t, they couldn’t hurt. She knew how much he loved cookies. Once she collected the cookies, she went to all of the spots where she could usually find him, hoping to catch him alone and in a quiet area, where they could have a talk.
