If Wishing Really Worked...

It seems strange to say that a movie like "White Men Can't Jump" had a very profound bit of philisophical wisdom in it's message, but it's definitely true.

The quote from Rosie Perez's character, Gloria, is as follows;

"Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose.  Winning and losing is all one organic mechanism, from which one extracts what one needs."

The truth in this statement is that there really are no winners or losers in Life, because Life is not a competition.  There is always something positive and something negative that you can take away from any situation, it all just depends on how you choose to perceive the results or deal with the consequences of your actions.

The real problems arise when people start worrying about winning and losing, because the end result of that is creating actual Winners and Losers.  Those distinctions only feed negative emotions and bad feelings.

In my opinion, the only things that matter at the end of the day are; 'do you feel cool with yourself?', and 'is your family OK'.  Aside from that, there isn't actually anything else in Life that is truly real.  Because you have to live with yourself for your entire life, so you'd better be cool with yourself or else things aren't going to be good, and the only lasting effect that you're going to have in this universe is the family that you leave behind when it's time for you to go.
