Steven Colbert's name will not appear on SC democratic ballot. People of the state were not given a chance to vote for or against someone who has both incredible personal wits and broad and fast growing public support. Message sent: those two things are not enough, you have to be part of us.
Before long we will hear from other countries with more vulnerable or nearly non-existing democratic institutions, after an independent candidate has been kept off the ballot: America does it too and it's ok.
