Uh, so what? Do you contest the result? .999... is just another name for 1. :-) All the numbers have multiple names. 0.29, for instance, can also be called 0.2899999999...

Well, if it makes you feel better, the first couple of "explanations" are flawed. The author starts to close in on the truth when he mentions infinite series and the limits of sequences of partial sums.

All the algebra is crap. :-D I love people who know just enough to be dangerous, but not enough to nail it.

The issue of .999... = 1 is not an algebraic property of the real numbers, it is a result of analysis. That crap about 9.999... - .999... = 9 is an artifact of the real reason, not a proof or demonstration or much of anything.
