Instant noodles were invented by the Japanese after World War II when food was scarce. A few decades later, the noodles have become one of the most popular foods around the world, especially in Asia.
Now, you can find a mind-boggling range of instant noodles on supermarket shelves and everyone seems to have a favourite.
I stopped buying instant noodles a long time ago because I was really tired of eating too much of it when I was studying overseas.
But recently, I was given some instant noodles from FairPrice to try and I found my favourite among them.
The FairPrice Mie Goreng or "Special Fried Noodles" boasts an authentic Indonesian flavour and is well-balanced with a hint of spiciness from the chilli powder and sweetness from the black sauce.
The fried noodles are also available in extra spicy flavour if you like your food spicy.
If you prefer soupy noodles, you can also try the FairPrice Mie Soup in delicious chicken and onion chicken flavour.
For today's recipe, I added stir-fried black pepper beef and vegetables to the Mie Goreng. For a more balanced meal, you can toss in more vegetables such as cabbage or shredded carrots, and top it off with a fried egg.
It's been so long since I've had instant noodles that I've forgotten how convenient they are for a quick snack or supper. Now, I always make sure I have a stash of FairPrice noodles in my cupboard - in case of
"emergencies"!
2 packets FairPrice Mie Goreng
150g Banksia stir-frying beef (available exclusively at NTUC FairPrice)
100g choy sum, washed
2 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp corn flour
2 tbsp oil
1 to 2 tbsp black pepper sauce (buy bottled sauce from the supermarket)
1 onion, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tbsp chopped spring onions
1 tbsp deep-fried shallots (buy ready-made crispy shallots from the
supermarket)
Method
1. Season beef with soy sauce, sesame oil and corn flour for 30 minutes.
2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry onions until slightly brown. Stir-fry beef for four to five minutes. Add black pepper sauce and toss well for one to two minutes. Set aside.
3. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Blanch choy sum for one minute. Set aside.
4. To prepare noodles, follow the instructions on the packet.
5. To serve, top noodles with beef, choy sum, spring onions and deep-fried shallots.

I meant to rant. I got back my 3rd English essay. B+. )= All 3 of them were B+! How do I get out of the ditch? >_< Karen signed my interim transcript form (that's why I got my essay back, I'd looked for her today) - B+ too. *sigh* I'm tempted to declare English the bane of my existence... but that's another cliché. *gulps*
Presentation for French wasn't that bad in the end. He said we'll get a base 8 out of 10 as a class! Wow! And even though we were supposed to talk for like 8 minutes, he cut us off. I think it was the shortest for Erika and me. Heh. Unfortunately, my slideshow couldn't be shown since I couldn't get internet connection in the classroom... bah!
I came to a conclusion today: watching #lj_support is a fun and quick way of improving your vocabulary! d=
