However, not everyone pays for their account.

Terms of service - fine, however, remember that things do evolve, and the terms may and can be changed. Most companies keep that right as long as it's within law...

And I wouldn't say clarity is norm anywhere on web. I know several sites that don't have any terms. Mind you, most of them do offer ONLY free services, on the whim of the webmaster. The line is always edgy - I'm sorry, but I can't see there can be full clarity.

Even though I must say (I have been member of HP fandom, written H/D slash etc.) that anything involving kids before their puperty is wrong. However, from personal experience, 3 out of 4 kids did have some sexual activity before the legal age of concent of 16 (where I come from).
Clarity in this issue is difficult because of 1)cultural differences 2) different laws all around the world.

This matter doesn't really concern me at all anymore, as I'm not a member of any fandom anymore and my journal is strickly for me and my friends. And I've never paid for my account. (I don't really know wtf you do with so many icons anyway.)

But I do, that means I expect to be treated as a paying customer. It means that the ToS is a contract which I have signed up to by providing payment for the service, indeed by having an account at all. I would not be happy with an insurance agreement that did not specify under which circumstances they would refuse to pay out, and this exactly the same problem, just with a smaller financial risk on my part (but still a non-negligable risk).

Things evolve. In the case of businesses this is due to either loss of revenue or legal pressure.

I don't use these sites. And the problem is not an 'edgy' line, but one which is hidden under the carpet.

I'm not really sure the relevance of this to my point, but it reads like you accusing me of something. I don't currently write in any fandom. The stories I have written involved no sexual realtionships, and certainly didn't involve underage sex. At the end of the day clarity is important exactly because of cultural differences. If the ToS said: "depictions of sexual relations featuring a participant under the age of 23 will result in instant suspension of the users account" then it would be clear what I could or could not write. I might think the specific choice of cut-off was ridiculous, but I would know what was expected, and could choose to accept it or not as appropriate.

Then why bug me about it if it doesn't concern you?

I have 5, I could happily have less. I started paying for my LJ because I really enjoyed the service. As a bonus I get preferential access to bandwidth during peak periods, this meant that I could actually get onto LJ before my lunch break ended. I've been paying for about three years and didn't really mind the expense even when I wasn't using LJ heavily, but I do take issue with the implied relationship between the customer and service provider here, and do not want to helping it continue.
