I accidentally dozed off earlier, and now cant fall asleep even though I ought to. Instead I ponder things.
Apparently men and women have similar moral and ethical values, however women are socially expected to show more empathy than men. Women who reach high positions in companies and institutions tend to display more 'masculine' characteristics in order to get there, because our society rewards aggression and competitiveness more than cooperation and compromise.
Rather than install women as world leaders, can we change our expectations of men and demand that they be more compassionate and empathetic? Would this improve matters?
How much of one's activities are explicitly done for the benefit of others? Is work just a way to earn money to fund one's actual interests or social life? Or do you see your work as actively exchanging with others and contributing to society generally? How much of what you do is purely for your own benefit and enjoyment, and nothing to do with others?
What do you see as standing in your way in terms of doing what you want to do?
