Seven miles in Minnewaska have taught me one thing: I need to buy new sneakers. The foam soles in my three-year-old trail runners are so shot there's no give left. Thank you, Campmor, for having decent low-ankle hiking boots for $35.
Speaking of re-shoeing things, I put my new tires on my car this morning. Christ, the grip is a night and day change. I also found out, while at Mavis, that my rear brakes should be replaced soon. Also, apparently my struts are very, very, very worn and kinda unhappy from "bottoming out too much", mostly because of the level of wear I think but, um, it's not like I'm gentle with my car. Apparently you're supposed to replace them around 80,000 miles? Anyone ever heard this? Well, my car's at 158,000, and I've hauled more than a few 600+ lb loads between gardening materials and deadfile boxes for work. So I've got to see about replacing all four struts on my car too. But to be fair, this is the first I've put money in it this year, and my maintenance/repair costs have replaced monthly payments to the bank, so I can't complain.
It's just one more thing to bite into my savings, though, and it's starting to concern me with the wedding 18 months away and our savings not quite where I wanted it to be. I'm not worried, per se, just aware after Cedar Point and doing what I need to do with my car, I'm not going to have much cushion left for unexpected things.
