36 random things that i won't post to facebook but wanted to write anyway
1. during my freshman, sophomore, and part of junior year my math teacher, mr. dunsmore, pronounced my name aliyah (like the dead hip hop artist) because i didn't have the balls to correct him
2. it blew my mind when i learned sophomore was spelled with an "o" after the "ph". i actually tried to correct the person who told me the correct spelling and was publicly embarrassed. in front of two other people.
3. i frequently confuse the letters "g" and "j" when i spell things out loud even though i can see the right letter in my head. it must be the little tail on the letters.
4. my first word was "bubba" which is what i used called my brother
5. i have a birthmark on my right palm near my thumb
6. i used to not use toilet paper in elementary school when i used the potties at school because i thought i was saving paper. only number one though. i didn't start number two-ing at school until about fifth grade.
7. my favorite part of the day used to be when my dad would get home because i would meet him at the top of our driveway and he would let me sit in his lap and steer down the hill into our carport
8. i brush my teeth on an average of once every two days and i never floss. last year my dentist told me that my dental hygiene was "average."
9. when i was about 5 i asked my grandmother how old she was. she told me that she was forty years old while at the time my mom was about forty five. then i pictured my grandmother as a baby giving birth to a five year-old version of my mom.
10. three of my closest friends are all named Katie
11. the only part of my body that i wouldn't change is my hair. i will never dye it.
12. i wore my hair in a ponytail for approximately a decade. only during the past few years have i felt more comfortable wearing it down and people who knew me for that decade still find it surprising when i don't have my hair pulled back.
13. i have never and will never smoke cigarettes
14. i lost my favorite pen during the chaos of signing yearbooks sophomore year. i think someone stole it from my pencil pouch without asking. i almost cried when i realized it was gone and still get somewhat emotional thinking about it.
15. all my best friends were boys until fourth grade
16. i confuse the words prescription and subscription almost always. but only when i'm trying to talk about a magazine "prescription" not about picking up a "subscription" from walgreens.
17. the only flavor Jelly Belly i don't eat is licorice. my favorite flavors are tutti frutti, buttered popcorn, coconut, vanilla bean, and bubble gum. i've been known to eat about a half pound bag in one sitting.
18. i had a palette expander in middle school and actually enjoyed cranking it every morning
19. i used to call spaghetti "gebbi" and only ate it if my mom cut the noodles into inch long pieces
20. i used to bite my big toe nails
21. i drank a glass of Welch's Passion Fruit Juice and hot chocolate milk every morning as a young child. except i would tell my mom to make "little bit hot chocolate milk" because i didn't like it too hot.
22. i am the only one in my family with brown/red hair, including my pets. my mom, dad, brother, deceased cat, and dog all have/had black hair.
23. i tie my shoes by making two bunny ears because that's how my brother taught me. tying them the other way requires much more concentration.

25. i have a scar on my left knee that i got from falling in a gutter three new year's eves ago. i wasn't drunk. i promise.

27. i stopped biting my fingernails in sixth grade when i changed schools because i thought the popular girls would think it was gross and not be friends with me. i still don't bite my fingernails and i was never friends with those popular girls.
28. when i get really excited/nervous about saying something i stutter. sometimes i think i'm developing a speech impediment.
29. i have never seen forrest gump, sound of music, or the departed.
30. i have only been to the basement, first, and twenty third floor of the WEB DuBois Library
31. i used to be very afraid of the dark and thunderstorms to the point that i had to sleep with a night light and sneak into my parents bed when i heard thunder. i still have a slight fear of both.
32. i used to call Campbell's Chicken Corn Chowder Soup "Camping Soup" because we ate it on every camping trip
33. although i'm not very religious, i believe somewhat in reincarnation
