Happy-borough

What is it about this city? Last night, I took the dog for a walk and had a long chat with someone who was trying to train a dog that has some form of ADD (too distracted by anything to focus). Everyone we passed on our walk smiled and said hello. Then today, as I was walking downtown for an annual general meeting, anyone who met my eye returned my smile. Lovely to see sidneymintz  and the munchkin in their summer regalia. At the meeting, it was almost like a reunion: people I hadn't seen for a long time all had something nice to say, even if it was a reassuring word about the progress of the dissertation. On my way home, I passed a house in our neighbourhood that had just been sold. The new occupants were just packing up, so I just welcomed them to the neighbourhood. We shook hands, exchanged names, and he said the next time I pass by with the dog, he'll invite me into his house.

Maybe it's summer, but I spent 5 hours in Toronto on Tuesday, and no one smiled back at me.
