"It's just a little sprain. I've walked them off before." Artemis replied. Kaldur seemed unconvinced, but her glare told him that the subject wasn't up for debate.
"Maybe if you weren't such a klutz..." Wally mumbled nearby over a mouthful of M'Gann's latest batch of cookies. Artemis shot him a glare, sliding off of the counter and forcing down a yelp as pain shot up her leg. She'd never admit it, but she almost agreed with him; caught up in fighting off the baddies, she'd miscalculated the distance between the ground and the roof. The hasty attempt to land harmlessly resulted in a twisted ankle that now throbbed rather painfully.
But she was Artemis! Artemis didn't show pain! Pain was for little children and guys like Wally. Too tired to even come up with a clever retort, Artemis crossed the room to head outside, covering her limp as well as she could. Luckily, the Team had shifted their attention back to their own activities and weren't watching the archer depart. A quick walk through the city would clear her head; then she could could figure out how the hell she'd get home.
She couldn't ask Oliver; he was probably busy with League matters. Besides, as nice a guy as her mentor was, he had a tenancy to get talkative when they spent too much free time together. She could have really used one of the Team's motorcycles, but Batman had strictly forbidden the team from touching them outside of missions after Superboy threw his through a Superman billboard. The Man of Steel had, once again, rejected his clone's bonding attempts so Artemis saw his actions as justified. She was the only one.
But fifteen minutes later found Artemis stuck downtown with still no way to get home and an ankle that throbbed harder than before. She sat down on one of the nearby benches, letting out a soft groan of relief as the pressure on her ankle subsided a bit. She'd woken up with a feeling that this was going to be a crappy day and, as her bad luck would have it, she was right. Sighing, she leaned back on the bench, wondering if she might have to call Oliver after all...It would be dark soon....
"What are you doing?" Ah hell, she knew that voice...
Lifting her head, Artemis turned to face the speaker, narrowing her eyes when she saw Roy standing behind her. She almost scoffed when she saw him wearing a pair of sunglasses, despite the fact that it was practically dusk. Has he that paranoid about someone seeing him?
"It's called sitting - it's what most people do on public benches."
"Actually I've seen people do worse things on public benches. Just this morning there was an old couple sitting there who-"
Not wanting to hear the rest of Roy's story Artemis got to her feet, momentarily forgetting that she had a bad ankle. A sharp jolt reminded her and Artemis let out a hiss of pain, leaning her weight to her other leg. Roy lifted an eyebrow, glancing down at her ankle.
"You hurt?" he inquired, though he clearly knew the answer already. Jackass.
"I'm fine!" Artemis snapped. She was angry that someone had seen her in a moment of weakness, and angrier still that it had to be HIM. She turned to storm away, but staggered when her injury protested the action. She stumbled forward and would have lost her balance had Roy not darted forward, catching her before she hit the ground.
"I just said I was fi-!" Artemis started but was stunned into silence when he suddenly lifted her into his arms, turning and carrying her down the street. "What are you doing?!"
"You need to keep the weight off the your ankle," Roy replied, not even glancing down at her, "Besides, you're no use to GA while crippled."
"Oh, you're such a gentleman," Artemis scowled, "And I'm not crippled! I just-"
"You just can't walk, is that it?" Roy replied, and Artemis could practically see the smirk in his voice. Sighing in defeat, Artemis just crossed her arms and enjoyed the ride. Hopefully the less she struggled the sooner this would be over with, and as much as they disliked each other Artemis couldn't deny the rush of gratitude that he still had some bit of chivalry left in him.
But he was still a jackass.

That is exactly the noise I made in the computer lab when I saw this had been filled. The entire lab thinks I'm weird, and that is your fault, anonwriter.
And I love you for it. :D
This was perfect. The snark, the cuteness. I ship this hardcore, and there's more coming! Can't wait!
