“Hold that thought KF,” there was a command in that voice and it was all business now.
Wally frowned but dashed to Robin’s side, looking to where he was- a couple of shady looking characters were creeping out of an alley towards a small family, parents and two little kids- it didn’t take a genius to figure out what was going to happen, it didn’t take long for it to happen either. The criminals stalked up, their knives flashing- Robin flashed him a quick smile, “We can keep talking after this, alright?”
“Yeah,” Wally muttered, he tried to keep the disappointment out but it was hard to do and pretty obvious, “Sure. Let’s take care of this first,” and he pulled is goggles down.
It was an easy job, Wally distracted them and Robin dropped from behind and the rest was a cinch. There were only five guys, and they had been surprised and all the knives were in Wally’s hands before the men could even realize that they had disappeared. It was while Robin was tying up the criminals that Wally checked on the family- smiling brightly and greeting them with a grin. It was funny how suspicious people in Gotham were, but like most people they slowly relaxed the more Wally smiled and talked with them. He’d learned that from his Uncle, smile and act like things were normal and people calmed down and were more receptive. Especially helpful in situations like…well…after crimes were committed.
Robin was just tightening the ropes on the thugs when a scream cut through the night. Not wasting any time Wally said a quick bye to the family and ran to find the scream’s origins. Robin tugged extra hard on the ropes and followed after- the police would be there soon. Unfortunately for Wally they never did get back to their conversation. The night went from dull and boring to exhausting and unending. It was crime after crime all of a sudden and by the end of the night both of them were tired enough to drop where they stood and confessing was the last thing in Wally’s mind as the two of them stumbled into the Batcave at the end of patrol.
Wally almost fell asleep waiting for Robin to change out of costume and when Boy Wonder walked out of the changing room smiled and looked as tired as Wally felt, the sleepy feeling disappeared and his heart fluttered. Robin looked goddamn adorable. Whatever frustration he felt from the night was blown away when Robin collapsed onto the couch next to him and flopped onto his shoulder, “You’re a boney pillow but ‘m too tired to walk upstairs.”
“O-oh really?” Wally said, trying to play it cool and not blush like crazy- which he probably was- but it wasn’t like Robin would notice.
“Hmm, pillows don’t talk KF. Go to sleep.”
For a minute Wally wondered how the hell he was going to fall asleep when Robin was practically laying on top of him! But exhaustion took care of that for him. He was tired, Robin was warm, and the couch he was sitting on was comfy and Wally fell asleep quickly. Next time…he’d actually get all the words out.
