So I hope this is ok. It's my first fill and I wanted to do it well. Grammar's not my forte however, but I hope this is at least close to what you wanted!

---------------------------

Glancing at his handy work, Bruce Wayne leaned down, readjusting the crooked knot one last time before stepping away with a small smile.

“There. All ready for the big day.” It wasn’t a question, but a statement, and Dick silently wondered if all parents were like this on their child’s first day of school. Nitpicky and optimistic. But for whose sake?

Growing up an ‘artist’, as his late parents had called themselves, the young boy had never attended school, at least, not one that had any direct link to the government and its ideas of ‘real’ education. He had, however, always been a part of small group of young performers. The group would attend lessons making sure they kept up with the required curriculum of others their age. Learning through classes was nothing new to the superhero protégé. Yet, here was Bruce Wayne, The Batman, The Dark Knight of Gotham, straightening this young artist’s tie.

Dick gave his best smile anyway, not wanting to disappoint his guardian, yet, not exactly excited for his newest mission.

It wasn’t necessary. For one of the busiest men in Gotham to personally escort the boy wonder to his first day of sixth grade. Alfred driving him was more than enough he thought, but the billionaire didn’t seem to agree.

“It’s a wonderful school you know.”

--- Of course it is, you opened it---

“The children there are friendly, you’re sure to make friends quickly. Just be yourself.”

---Is there another person I could be?---

“If you encounter any problems, don’t hesitate to contact me via-“

“Bruce.” Dick couldn’t help but interject. He understood his guardian to be concerned, but just because he grew up a part of the circus did not mean he was incapable of dealing with ‘normal’ society. “I’ll be fine.” He gave a small smile to further reassure his mentor.
Bruce sighed in response, an apologetic expression becoming clear.

“Sorry, I know that. I’m just concerned. This… kid thing is all pretty new to me. Maybe I should walk you-” Dick patted him on the arm reassuringly.

“It’s fine. I’m fine. You’re doing fine.” As the car pulled to a stop, the boy wonder grabbed his backpack and slid out of the car.

“Alfred will pick you up after school. I’ll see you at-“

“Dinner. Got it.” The artist grinned before walking off with a leisurely wave. He knew Bruce was hesitating, wanting to say something else, but as he heard the car door shut behind him, he didn’t dare turn around.

Kids, clad in matching uniforms bustled quickly into the building before him, talking with their friends, animated. Dick gripped the strap of his bag tighter, taking his first step into the sea of students with a deep breath.

He was used to facing audiences of hundreds since a young age. He would be fine. But… if he needed anything, all he had to do was call.

Asadfjkl it's great!
Poor Bruce is just trying to be a good dad, but Dick's too independent. XD

I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I kept noticing how Dick mentally describe Bruce as a mentor and guardian, but not a father yet. It seemed to fit how independent he seems and thinks back to his circus life a lot, so he hasn't quite transitioned into seeing Bruce as a father figure yet.

Looking forward to the next parts :)

“I-I’m -achoo! I’m fine Bats! Come on, it’s just patrol. I’ll wait in the -cough- the Batmobile. Just don’t make me stay here any longer. I’m tired of drinking tea and that cough medicine Alf keeps shoveling down my throat is totally not aster.”

“We both know very well you won’t simply wait and watch. The answer is no, Dick. That’s final. I don’t want to hear any more from you.” The mentioned boy frowned deeply as he was addressed. It was just a head cold, a small fever. It would pass.

Still, Papabat’s, as the boy wonder had taken to calling him when he got into such coddling moods, word was law, no matter how desperately Dick thought him incorrect.

“S’just a cold…” The boy wonder mumbled to himself, slumping back against his pillow. Bruce rolled his eyes, a warm smile present on his lips as he rose from the edge of the mattress, the crisp, navy sheets creasing as his weight shifted.

“Even, “just a cold” mixed with that fever of yours could be the difference between a lethal strike and one that could have been avoided. There’s no way I’m risking your safety just because you can’t handle being bed ridden for a few days.” It was Dick’s turn to roll his eyes, a deep frown prominent on his young face.

“If it were you, you wouldn’t -achoo!- wouldn’t settle for being tied down to bed either. You just don’t want me to get in your way. Admit it.” The billionaire sighed, pulling the dark leather of his mask over his head.

“Dick.” His tone was authoritative, yet, the young boy couldn’t help but glare up at the other, feeling rejected. “It’s your job as Robin to catch the criminals. If you’re not at your best, it’s true that you would only be causing more damage than you would be helping. However, if you are not at your best, you are taking even more of a risk, more than we usually do,” He added quickly, catching the other before he had time to interject. “and it’s a risk I will not let you take knowingly. Your safety is important Dick. Important to me. As it should be to you.” With that, Bruce began to walk towards the door, flicking off the lights before turning one last time toward his sick partner.

“Get some rest. I’ll come check on you when I get back.” He paused, awaiting a reply.

“Good night Bruce. ...don’t get your butt too beat up without me.”

“Good night Dick. I’ll try thanks... Feel better.” The young hero could almost hear the smile in the other’s voice, and as he turned onto his side, prepared to go back to sleep, Dick could only think about how many butts he wouldn’t be kicking tonight. It was not until he was sure Papabats closed the door, by the small click he heard, did the boy wonder allow a small smile to grace his features, even in the dark room.

He was too old to have a curfew, but he had to admit, a little break every now and then was kind of nice. Not that he would ever tell Bruce that.

This chapter was little difficult to draft out but... I hope it didn't come out too bad.

-----------------------------------------

“Dick we need to talk.” Blue eyes shifted to stare up at his adoptive father.

“Right, but can it just wait like, five minutes? This is the best part and you’re kinda blocking the view…!” The boy wonder leaned sideways, trying to see the large screen of the television with no avail. He sighed. “I suppose I can just rent it later… but it won’t be nearly as climactic. Totally not feeling the appointment.” Bruce gave him a look.

“You know, the opposite of disappointment? If I still have to keep you up to date you’re not nearly as- …right.” The boy wonder sighed, crossing his arms and leaning back, the plush couch shaping itself around his small frame. “There’s really nothing to talk about.” But his words came out too quickly, cold and defensive and Dick wished instantly to take them back. He had one chance to play it cool, and he blew it. The dark knight would surely be able to see through it, not to mention, a father always knew when his child was lying.

“You’re upset about Batgirl.” Robin scoffed, rolling his bright blue eyes. His adoptive father had chosen to take a seat across from him, facing him with a soft, yet, serious expression.

“Upset? Why should I be upset? She’s here to help us out. That’s cool. Honestly, couldn’t be happier.”

“You don’t have to pretend Dick. Batgirl-“

“Barbara. Don’t call her batgirl. It’s weird to hear ‘bat’ in a name that doesn’t end in ‘man’.” The billionaire sighed.

“Barbara then. But she’s not here to replace you Dick. I’m not looking for a new partner nor am I looking for a new addition to this family. The bat family maybe, but not to the Wayne family. No one is trying to replace yo-“

“I know that! I-“ He bit his lip, frustrated with himself for not holding his tongue once again. “I don’t think you’re trying to replace me, Bruce.”

“But you feel threatened.” It wasn’t a question and the young boy couldn’t help but hate how well the other knew him, even more than he knew himself. The man gave a reassuring smile, rising from his seat and walking over to where his son sat with a deep frown.

“She’s… she’s really good.” Bruce pated the preteen on the shoulder.

“She’s talented yes. But you have the experience Dick. She’s here to help. As an ally, as a friend as-“

“An unnecessary addition to a perfect duo?” Batman threw him a disappointed look, Robin only shrugged, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “It was worth a shot.” However, the boy took comfort in the small chuckle that escaped his adoptive father’s lips.

“Yes. But as I was going to say, she’s here as a member of our crime fighting family. Not as a replacement, but a new addition. She can help us. I hope you can accept that.” Dick paused, thinking over the best rational move before waving his father off with a playful scoff.

“Please. What am I? Five? You’re misinterpreting the situation Bats. I’m not jealous. I just don’t want her messing up the rhythm we have. She better be a quick learner, I already have one bat to worry about and that’s already a hassle.” Bruce sighed in defeat, the continuity the least of his worries.

“Right. Well, why don’t you get to bed? You’re going to need all the energy you can get if you’re going to teach Barbara the ropes. She has a lot she can learn from you.” The boy wonder knew this was all being said to make him feel better, still he wouldn’t complain.

“Right. Well just know, I won’t go easy on her just 'cause she’s a girl!” Again, a deep chuckle resounded that caused a smile to stretch across the boy’s face. The billionaire ruffled his son’s short hair.

“It would… not be an… appointment if you did. Now go on. Good night dick.” The preteen laughed, hopping up the stairs as he went.

“Keep working on it old man! …Good night.”

Oho, do I sense a new prompt? "Dick's unique vocabulary has to start rubbing off on Bruce sometime, after all. FIVE TIMES BATMAN USED A ROBINSPEAK WORD WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT."
