He knows all this...because the Light told him. In fact, they told him pretty much everything about the League and their sidekicks when he defected to them right after he left the team. When he said he was done with the League, he meant it in every sense. He'd show them what he was really capable of - as their enemy. The Light ordered him to keep the trust of YJ, make sure they still considered him a friend. It would make it all the easier when he finally struck against them.
He just hadn't counted on HER. He hadn't expected to hate her so much, to feel so much rage when he saw her stepping into his old life, training with his former mentor, hanging out with his friends. So she was going to have to pay. He knew it wouldn't be hard to totally and utterly break the new girl. After all, no one knew her. He was one of the team's best friends. It wasn't hard to guess who they'd believe.
(Basically, I want Roy out to physically and emotionally destroy Artemis. He's stalking her, attacking her, all the while taunting her that her friends will never believe her over him, especially once he reveals her past to them. No character death, please, but I wouldn't mind if he beats her half to death or seriously injures her before YJ cues in on what's going on. Maybe M'gann picks up a psychic vision of her attacker?)
(Oh, God, why am I doing this? I love both these characters. D:)
