I am REALLY, REALLY SORRY about taking so long, guys, and about not being around much recently. I've been busier than I have in a while, and it just kept slipping my mind between uni applications and volunteering and all sorts- for some reason I thought we were much further off a new post.
If there is anything I haven't responded to, as of now, I'm

The man known in this world as “Wally West” does not believe in magic.
…how does he not believe? Does he not know what he is, what he is to her? Does he not remember where he comes from, the things he’s done?
(These are Thumbelina’s -Artemis, now- first thoughts as she meets him again.)
She does not tell him.
If Cornelius doesn’t remember her, if he doesn’t even acknowledge the fact that magic exists, much less fairies, then she’s not going to tell him.
There’s no way he’ll believe her, anyway.
And it hurts.
Badly.
She watches with forlorn eyes as her fiancé (that doesn’t know he’s her fiancé) flirts with anything that moves. She gets mad and argues with him because he’s flirty and scientific and oblivious, and it’s tearing her to bits inside. She goes to the apartment she shares with her ‘mom’ -never home, because it’s not home, not to her- and cries her eyes out because the man she loves more than anything doesn’t even like her.
She came to this world to find her love and bring him home, to explain to a human that he was a fairy prince (her fairy prince), cursed to live out his days as a human without memories of his former life. When she discovered her Cornelius as a redheaded superhero named Kid Flash, she found a way to get onto his ‘Team’ (by becoming Artemis) so she could tell him. So that she could wake him up. So he could remember her. She expected it to be hard.
She just didn’t expect it to be this hard.
She misses being able to fly (and flying with him). This ‘being human’ thing was harder than she thought it would be. She can hardly remember what it was like without her wings, even though she spent the first eighteen years of her life without flying. Cornelius-Wally, she reminds herself- doesn’t have wings either, although she supposes his super-speed is the substitute for them in this upside-down, screwed up world.
Even six months after she’s found him, when they’re finally boyfriend and girlfriend (such strange terms these humans come up with, she muses), Thumbelina’s -Artemis, she reminds herself; she is Artemis- heart still aches.
Because she can’t tell him.
He still doesn’t believe.
And it’s breaking her heart, slowly and excruciatingly.
Cornelius doesn’t remember her, doesn’t even think magic exists. He still tries to explain magic, fairies, his whole life, with science.
One night, Thumbelina -she’s not Artemis, not lying to herself anymore- sits in her room, staring out at the moon. The moon Cornelius lifted her up to see that first magical night, the night he sang to her and promised to be her wings, to never let her fall.
And now he doesn’t have wings. Now he doesn’t entertain her with stories of the fairy-court, and all of the silly things that happened that day. Now he doesn’t even believe in magic.
‘What happened?’ she thinks forlornly, staring blankly out at the moon.
What happened to my Happily Ever After?

So yeah. There you go. Hope you enjoyed. :)
Yes, I used 'Thumbelina'. It even works, I tell you! Both girls have blonde hair (Thumbelina's is, admittedly, a orange-blonde, but it's still blonde) and both the guys are red-heads! It was a stroke of inspiration. :)

This was so good, poor Artie.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

And angst!
And Thumbelina!
And of course the fact that this is a fairy tale at all, which I think I'm genetically wired to enjoy, because I pretty much love anything that has anything vaguely to do with fairy tales. Even just hints. But especially things like this.
This whole premise reminds me of Once Upon a Time (TV show about fairy tales in case you didn't know).
And I love the fact that you used Thumbelina! It even fits with Wally then showing Conner the moon (though... yeah...) I haven't read that one in forever, I love that you used a more obscure tale. Rapunzel and Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood are great but sometimes it's nice to randomly get a little girl named Marlene or something. (That's from the Juniper Tree, which I remember specifically because it is incredibly creepy. Not only is there a ton of violence, it is dealt with completely casually. You get the feeling that authors have either never seen violence, ever, and don't get that being dead is worse than scraping your knee, or they complete sociopaths. You should read it if you haven't. It's a good example of how Grimm's fairy tales are very grim, when you get down to it.)
Anyways, I really really love it, and sorry for rambling. Bit late, I tend to monologue when I'm tired.

When Arti-belina hears about that she's going to just die.

Arti-belina. I'm going to have to remember that. That's good. :D
...let's not go there, yeah? ;)

*sigh* I love fairy-tales. Absolutely adore them. Which is why this prompt got my attention in the first place.
Yeah, I've heard of the show. It sounds super interesting, but I haven't the time (unfortunately) to watch it. My TV watching consists of Young Justice, Legend of Korra, and Doctor Who. Plus assorted movies (most of which are Disney and/or kids movies.)
...yeah. I think it's best not to go there. ;)
I know. Everyone knows Snow White and Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast (although I was slightly tempted to use that last one), but OP said fairies. :) so fairies it was.
Yes! The original Grimms tales are super creepy. The original Sleeping Beauty? *shudder*
Anyway, I'm super happy you enjoyed my fill (and don't worry, I monologue and ramble when I'm tired too).

Yay!
What happened in Sleeping Beauty? I just re-read it, and it seemed really, really comparably tame. ...Technically we should probably not clutter up this thread. Will you message me? Cause now I'm curious about that version.
Loquaciousness comes with exhaustion, I've found. You're welcome!

And Thumbelina! I didn't even think of that, but love both the original story and the film! I'm tempted to beg for a happy ending, or at least a continuation, but it was so beautfully rounded off and self-contained I absolutely understand if you don't want to :)
Thankyou! And apologies for the overuse of exclamation marks in this, I'm just very excited by your fill :D

Yes, you can hug it. I'm really happy you liked it and thought it was beautiful. I tried. My writing (especially when I spit it out in half an hour like I did with this because my brain went 'WRITE...NOW!') doesn't always turn out like I want it too.
Hmmm...I was actually talking with my friend about this today, and I had an idea for a cracky oneshot connected with this.
(I'll give you a hint: 'Dearie! Marry the Mole!' hehe)
But yes, unless I do that, I don't think there will be a continuation (although you never know). I just don't know how I would continue it. Maybe Thumbelina's continued attempts to get Cornelius *cough*sorry, Wally, to believe?
And there wasn't an overuse. I think I counted...three? That's hardly an overuse. ;)
Once again, I'm so very very glad you enjoyed it, and I'm happy that I made you happy.

You've...never seen it? *shock* But...but...it was my childhood!
JK. Loads of people haven't even heard of it. I used to watch it when it came on on Toon Disney (even though it's...not Disney).
Super cheesy, but super adorable. And it's got amazing music.
Just as extra incentive to go watch it: ;)
