“Why don’t you go over there Wally?” Dick asked curious, motioning towards the many stands only a few dozen feet away from them.
“What? Why would I do that?” Wally questioned, brows furrowing in honest confusion.
“I don’t know dude, maybe ‘cause you keep looking over there like a puppy on a leash? We’ve got time.” Dick said in exasperation.
Wally glanced at the large convention before turning back to Dick.
“No, I wasn’t interested, it’s just really loud over there. It’s just distracting.” Wally said absently.
Dick cackled in amusement.
“Ah… Come on Wally I know your secretly a die hard comic nerd. You like to dress up in warrior costumes and play out scenes right?” Dick joked. “You spend all day at the library sitting in the aisles reading manga too?”
Wally stilled for the briefest of moments. Dick stopped his playful teasing at the sight of Wally’s shoulder’s tensing up. Then, as if it never happened, Wally shrugged carelessly with a broad smile.
“Don’t be stupid Dick. Come ooooon let’s go to that Aeropostale store we saw earlier where all the girls were hanging out.” Wally announced, grabbing one of Dick’s arms and dragging the boy wonder behind him.
Wally focuses dead ahead as they completely exit the area where the comic convention is being held. Frowning Dick follows his best friend silently, allowing himself to be pulled through the dense crowd, but glancing back from where they came.
For the rest of the trip Wally acts completely normal. He’s all smiles, is warm and talkative, but something feels off. Dick feels like he accidentally said something wrong and is unnerved that Wally seems determined to ignore it. Before they leave Dick gently suggests that it would be fine if Wally did want to go see the convention, but Wally just raises an eyebrow at him and laughs as if Dick’s joking.
After they get back to the mountain for afternoon training with Black Canary the duo sink into line like they never left. Dick spars with Artemis while Wally pairs off with Kaldur and everything appears fine.
But Batman told him time and again to trust his intuition.
His intuition was telling him that something felt off about Wally.
So he kept a close eye on his friend for the rest of the day and when nothing else happened he let it go.
