Really, villains are always so cliche.

Is it really so hard to use common sense in some of their schemes? Why would any intelligent person, let alone a villain, make the button that begins the self-destruct countdown of their super-secret base a big, red button that says 'DO NOT PUSH'?

::You just HAD to push the big red button, didn't you Wally?!::

::Would you please shut up about that?!::

::She's only doing it to distract herself from our imminent doom! No thanks to you!::

::LESS TALKING, MORE ESCAPING!::

::I'm not going to argue with that!::

-Self Destruct In: 10 Seconds-

They ran frantically down the stairs, Kid Flash far ahead in the lead but contemplating running back to pick up his slowest teammate. Robin was not only lagging behind due to his lack of speed but his constant compulsion to slow down and throw birdarangs at their pursuers. He should have left that to Miss Martian and her telekinesis, but she wasn't lagging behind like he was and wasn't in the optimal position. Artemis was keeping an eye on him, at least.

-7 Seconds-

Kid Flash was finally out of the building now, with Superboy not far behind.

-5 Seconds-

"I'm going back in," he said, obviously meaning he was going back for Miss Martian.

"Supey, wait, Robin-!"

-3 Seconds-

::Artemis, Robin, there's no time left!:: yelled Aqualad mentally as he and Miss Martian met Superboy in the stairwell. Superboy grabbed both of them and tossed them down the stairs faster than Miss Martian could fly, and Superboy continued to run towards his final two teammates.

-1 Second-

::UNDER ME! NOW!:: he shouted to Artemis, jumping on top of her and shielding her with his body. Robin was still lagging behind, but he was in view.

::WAIT! ROBIN! Forget about me, help -::

-0-

Superboy crouched over Artemis defensively, but still attempted to reach an arm out to Robin, who had taken a final leap of faith towards them, reaching his right arm out just as the explosions started.

He was propelled forward by the force of the explosion, heat at his back, just as Superboy barely managed to grab his hand and pull him underneath his torso. He was shoved haphazardly on top of Artemis, but right now none of them cared due to the heat and burning and pain.

::SUPERBOY!:: Miss Martian screamed mentally, fear in her voice.

::ROB! ARTEMIS!:: yelled Kid Flash, just as frightened.

But Miss Martian, Kid Flash, and Aqualad could only watch and wait for the explosions to subside and the building to collapse before they could run in and try to find their friends alive or dead.

Superboy was invulnerable, but not even he would go scratch-free when caught up in multiple explosions. And even then, he could still feel the pain and heart of it. He couldn't help but scream as the fire ripped at his clothes and licked at his skin. Also, he was large, but not so large that he could protect and conceal two people underneath him completely. Artemis was covered by two bodies and felt the least of the damage, but she still felt the scorching heat claw at her flesh.

Robin was assisted by his cape in keeping both him and Artemis as 3rd-degree-burn free as possible, but his left arm was practically unprotected and he cried out in pain as it was burned. The shock-waves from the explosions shook all three of them, but Robin's costume was made of sturdier stuff than either of his teammates' and kept mostly intact. The rubble that fell on top of Superboy almost made him collapse, but he was made of sturdier stuff too, and held fast.

Soon enough the explosions stopped; only the fires kept burning in the rubble. Kid Flash, Miss Martian, and Aqualad ran into the destruction, Aqualad putting out fires and Miss Martian moving pieces of debris with her telekinesis. Kid Flash eventually found his three friends, burned and battered, but alive. Superboy was barely conscious and his ears were ringing, Robin had passed out, and Artemis was trying to keep hold of her senses.

"Superboy!" Miss Martian cried out in relief, and she helped him to stand after he rolled off of Robin and Artemis.

Artemis grunted, pushing at Robin on top of her. "Move it, bird boy...nnng..." Her strength gave out and she allowed herself to relax her muscles on the burned too-warm concrete beneath her. "Could somebody...get him off me?"

Kid Flash carefully examined Robin, and noticed the horrible burn on his arm and his shallow breathing. "Dude, are you okay?" It soon was apparent, though, that the boy wonder wasn't responding, so Kid Flash picked his best friend up gently and quickly ran him out of the rubble, placing him on the ground outside.

Aqualad came out supporting Artemis, and Miss Martian Superboy.

"Now, we call the league," said Aqualad, pressing the 'A' symbol on his waste to call for help.

This was awesome! I loved the franticness of this and poor Robin! Always getting hurt, Batman should put him in a plastic bubble or something, lol.
