Batman--Bruce Wayne that is--was not going to know at all. Alfred though? So in on it. Wally had made a quick run quite literally to Gotham to meet Robin after school. While Bruce was away for business the two of them could have some damn good times hanging out in the super sweet Wayne Manor. They had been planning it for weeks. Alfred usually picked Dick Grayson up from school but today Wally and his bro would hit the arcade scene for a few hours before their ride came. While it was true that Dick had plenty of games at his mansion, there was nothing like playing at an arcade. There were so many more people to absolutely school there in the games of their choice.

When he heard the final bell ring, Wally bounced on his heels happily. Maybe it was stupid to be excited, but it was pretty rare for him to do some normal friend stuff like a sleepover. He liked the rest of the team fine too but sometimes you just wanted to chill with your best friend and tease. The shade of red he turned when he talked about Zatanna's boobs was always priceless.

And now finally there was Dick and--

Wally frowned at what he saw. Three older students were following Dick closely, laughing. For a moment he thought they were friends, extra baggage on what was suppose to be their best bros night out. Then he looked more carefully at his friend's face and recognized the expression. It was the same steely look he'd use when ignoring taunts from enemies. The way he set his jaw and the way he forcibly made himself not clench his fists that made his hands look twitchy, it was exactly the same.

Without a second thought Wally started towards the group.

"Man, did you win the orphan lottery or something, circus boy? Because I don't see any reason for you to be here besides that."

Another boy snickered. "Maybe Bruce Wayne likes freak shows. Or maybe the kid came in a package with an elephant."

Dick kept walking.

"I heard his parents were shit at their job and splattered on the ground."

The small boy halted in his tracks and his hands clenched into fists.

"Hey!" Wally went running now, not stopping until he stood in front his friend. It was strange how much more vulnerable he always seemed when he was out of uniform and without his sunglasses. Suddenly Robin was just Dick Grayson during those times and Dick Grayson wasn't the same badass. It was a shitty circumstance.

But right now Wally was in a town where no one knew him. And that gave him a certain freedom to run his mouth and throw his weight, even without his tights.

"Shut your fucking mouths." He didn't usually have a filthy mouth, but Wally felt the curse spill out with an angry satisfaction. He wasn't bigger than any of these boys at all, but he let his body language show he gave absolutely no fucks about mixing things up. In his casual clothing he knew what he looked like: just some normal kid looking for trouble at the fancy private school. And he was okay with that. "Back the hell off this kid or I'll back you off myself. All of you. You have no idea what his situation is you bunch of spoiled rich shits. So what if he was a circus boy?"

One of the boys stepped forward, but Wally got up in his grill. He held that boy's gaze with his fiercest look.

"I wasn't done talking to you. I said, so what if he was a circus boy? Tell me since when you get to judge someone for the situation they're born into?!"

The bullies turned away, not answering. Wally let himself breathe again, finally noticing how hot his face was with anger. He must have looked like a hairy tomato. The redhead let himself turn to Dick, who stood there looking incredibly uncomfortable.

"Sorry about that, Wally. Just kind of a bad day today with those three." He wanted to say he didn't need Wally's help, he didn't need anyone to look out for him. Especially not at his own school. It may even get worse now that he had a normal town boy helping him out. But still, there was a part of him that felt grateful for it anyway.

Wally had his back.

Dick slung an arm around Wally's shoulders. "Now lets go. I'm going to whip you in Marvel Versus Capcom."

The anger fled from Wally as quickly as it had came. "Yeah right! You're on!"
