A/N:Not the one who claimed this. I used the male Question because I'm a LJU cartoon sort of anon

The zeta tube inside the entrance of the Mount Justice lair whirred as it opened up for the new arrivals. The team had been informed that their new Justice League liaison, their "caretaker", would be taking the place of Red Tornado and Black Canary since they had been away on Justice League business. The Identification robot's voice carried throughout the cave.

Batman: 02

Martian Manhunter: 07

The Question: 33

The team stared as a hurried Batman held a man in a blue hat and coat and no apparent face in front of him by his shoulder. The faceless man was looking up at the ceiling of the cave with his pointer finger and thumb wrapped around his chin as if giving the wall considerable contemplation. J'onn looked ahead passively and with less urgency, though M'gann was looking at him in concern. Superboy gave the faceless man a strange look as he seemed to mumble to himself.

"We are inside Mount Justice, the confirmed base of operations for the Justice League's covert operations," the faceless man contemplated to himself, "whether this has anything to do with my missing muffins this morning has yet to be confirmed."

When the group stopped in front of the team, Batman's hand tightened on the shoulder of the faceless man and he grit his teeth when speaking, obviously at the end of his rope.

"This is The Question. He will be dispatching you on missions while Red Tornado and Black Canary are away. Question, this is Kaldur'ahm, the team leader."

Kaldur stepped up to shake The Question's hand only to have the man stare at him.

"I don't shake hands. Shaking hands was developed by pharmaceutical companies to help the spread of disease."

Kaldur looked a little lost in the break in custom but lowered his arm, Robin snickering behind him.

"Please call me Kaldur, and this is Robin, Artemis, Superboy, Miss Martian, and Kid Flash."

The Question nodded in greeting. Batman nodded as well and spoke tersely.
"Alright. Now if you'll excuse us, we have business to get back to."

Batman turned around, cape shifting against his back, and slowly faded before everyone's eyes.

"Batman!" Robin yelled, eyes wide and his hand extended to where his mentor had previously stood. The rest of the team got into alert stances and The Question was examining the floor where the Caped Crusader once stood. J'onn touched his communicator and spoke.

"It's happened to Batman. I'm at Mount Justice now. I'll head to headquarters right away."

Superboy stomped angrily to J'onn and held his organic clothing in his fists.

"Where did he go?" he yelled into the impassive Martian face. Aqualad and M'gann both stepped up to stop him, but J'onn held up his hand to stop them. He put a firm hand on Superboy's bicep and looked him in the eye.

"There is a transdimensional rift and many of our ranks have fallen through," he paused a moment looking at the new question in Superboy's eyes, "Superman amongst them. With Batman gone, I am all that is left of the original seven."

Wally sped up closer upon hearing that.

"No way! Flash and John are gone too."

"Is this why everyone is so busy at the League?" Robin asked in an unnaturally controlled manner, anger lingering in the undertone of his voice. He didn't wait for an answer.

"We're being treated like kids again. We've proven ourselves again and again. What's it going to take for you to take us seriously? Maybe if you'd let us know what was happening maybe we could have prevented this!" He gestured to the spot where Batman once stood.

"Maybe, maybe..."

"Maybe they couldn't tell you," the film noir voice of The Question spoke out, standing up from the spot he was examining on the floor.

"How could they not tell us? We can take care of ourselves," Artemis spoke out, crossing her arms in indignation.

The Question ignored them all and turned to J'onn who was still being held in Superboy's grip.

"That's what's causing the rift, isn't it? Some sort of information that is required to understand the problem. That is what is causing the rift."

J'onn nodded his head slightly in the affirmative.

"I've already said too much," J'onn said and looked down at Superboy, "Please let go of me. The sooner I go, the sooner I can help Batman and Superman. They are my friends as well."

Superboy looked conflicted, but let go of J'onn with a frustrated huff.

"Thank you." Superboy just stared hard at the floor, arms crossed. J'onn walked back toward the portal. The identification robot scanned him.

Martian Manhunter 07

J'onn looked back at the distraught group of young heroes as the zeta tube whirred, speaking plainly.

"We will get them back." Then J'onn left through the transportation portal.

The cave was silent. The team eventually wandered in their separate directions to vent their frustrations.

The Question wandered to the kitchen where M'gann was stirring a bowl of cake mix, pound cake if the smell buttery smell was anything to go by. She stopped stirring when he sat at the counter and just stared at her cake mix.

"Will Uncle J'onn be OK?"

"The Justice League has dealt with problems like this before. They will be fine." She didn't say anything in response, "Well as fine as anyone is with nanobots in their water system, controlling their bodies, but you're uncle is a Martian so he probably doesn't have that problem." She looked up at him in surprise.

"I did not know that about Earth's water suppy." She gave the tap a meaningful glance.

"Most people on Earth don't know about it, but when I get proof I will take down the powers that are doing this."

"That sounds serious!" M'gann leaned in with him conspiratorially, mixing the cake mix in her bowl once again. The Question made animate gestures with his hands as he got excited.

"You think that is bad, wait until you hear what whitening toothpaste does to radio waves."

END

A/N: Oh man, it's been so long since I've written fic and the first time with these characters. It's hard! I failed so badly. I meant the disappearance into another dimension thing to be a "Haha, interdimensional travel with the Justice League, must be Wednesday" sort of thing, but it turned into something else. Hope you liked it anyway. I do love The Question.

Fuck yes. The Question is my secret favorite (no-he's-not-an-Objectivist-stereotype) love.

Hell yes. I only wish there was more, anon.
